The Maryland Insider covers a wide variety of information on players in the state. We will cover events, players to watch, rankings, best in class, and many more topics that will cover the many levels of high school baseball.
This edition covers prospects to watch in the 2016 class. Listed alphabetically below are several players that have recently jumped on the radar.
Jaret Bennett, LHP, Colonel Richardson HS
The lefty has been showing very well at some workouts of late, showing good athleticism and arm action. Still in early stages of the preseason, has yet to show a breaking ball. A ¾ arm slot with some nice rhythm in his delivery. Bennett has been sitting in the 83-86 mph range and is getting on some radars.
Nate Bosse, OF, Calvert Hall
At 6-foot-7, 245 pounds, Bosse is already an intimidating presence on the baseball field. He shows good physical awareness and body control for a young person with the big frame. Moved pretty well during a workout and showed some very good power at the plate with quick hands. Gets a little long at times and may need some lower half work, but the size and power potential should be getting noticed.
Spencer Horwitz, C, St. Pauls
The Owings Mills native has shown a good ability at the plate and this past week showed more ability to stay in the middle of the field with good opposite field gap power. Strong kid and a frame to put on some more. Showed average exchange and had some carry on throws behind the plate.
Dylan Nepert, C, Colonel Richardson
Bennett’s battery mate at Colonel Richardson, Nepert showed good receiving skills behind the plate with good feet and hip control getting to balls in dirt. Offensively showed a short swing with quick hands and good separation.
Brady O’Neil, C, St. Mary’s
O’Neil has been a name spoken about during the fall. The athletic catcher shows a good ability receiving the baseball and is athletic enough that he possibly could move to another position. O’Neil has a short swing and gets to the ball quickly with his hands. Good foundation at the plate and should continue to get better as he gets some more extension through contact.
Matt Smith, OF/1B, Parkside HS
Physical outfielder with some pop from the left side of the plate. Showed nice rhythm in swing with quick hands and good extension.
Elliot Zollner, RHP, St. Mary’s
This RHP has a good frame and has been up to 89 mph this fall down in Jupiter, FL. Has been on a strict regimen on a velocity program with trainer Jamie Evans from Evoshield Canes. Is only in the early stages of being on a mound and a lot of eyes are waiting to get out and see this young prospect.
