March 26 Daily Game Roundup



In the game of the day, No. 19 Raymore-Peculiar cooled the hot bats of Rockhurst with a 5 to 3 victory.

CF Garrett McKinzie got things started in the top of the first with an RBI single scoring Seth Parker.

In the top of the second inning, Ray-Pec would tack on two more runs and extending their lead to 3-0. 3B Cort Lestmeister (No. 39 ranked player in the Class of 2013) led off with a hard single to left center and advanced to second on a bobble by the Rockhurst outfielder.  2B Mason Nowell’s sac bunt advanced Lesmeister to third. Jeremy Mansur (ranked No. 30 in the Class of 2012) followed with a walk, putting runners on the corners. LF Cole Frakes laid down a sac bunt scoring Lesmeister.  CF Christian Arnold smashed an RBI triple to deep right center scoring Mansur from second.

Not to be outdone, Rockhurst plated two runs in the bottom of the second, cutting the lead to 3-2 after a lead off triple by 3B Henry Weiler (Ranked No. 12 in the Class of 2012) and a bases loaded walk.

The action continued in the top of the third, where Ray-Pec would score a pair of runs. SS Seth Parker singled up the middle to lead off the frame and would advance to second on a Jacob Boylan walk. McKinzie collected his second hit of the game, a single to right that loaded the bases. Lestmeister would then come through with RBI single to right scoring Parker, followed by a Nowell RBI groundout to third, scoring Boylan.

That is all the offense Ray-Pec would need as the relief corps of Hunter Phillips (2 1/3 innings) and Cort Lestmiester (2 innings) silenced the potent Rockhurst offense. Seth Parker picked up the save, with a three up, three down seventh inning.


In the Midwest Baseball Classic Tournament, Francis Howell North blanked Hickman 10-0. Sophomore C Dave Prost set the tone for the Howell North offense with a perfect four for four day at the plate. LF Cale Laughlin collected three hits and scored all three times he reached base. 1B Braxton Martinez (ranked No. 7 in the Class of 2012), CF Yoonjae Nam (ranked No. 30 in the Class of 2012), and RF Justin Watkins each came through with two RBIs apiece.

In their second game, Hickman defeated St. Charles West 2 to 1. C Colby Fitch (No. 5 ranked player in the Class of 2014) went one for three at the plate, and picked up the save, striking out two in his one inning of work.

Francis Howell Central blasted Summit 10-1

Francis Howell knocked off Northwest 8 to 3.

Ft. Zumwalt West shut out Lafayette 9-0 behind a complete game shut out by RHP Zach Malach, who has not allowed an earned run in two starts this season.

 

In other action around the state:

O’Fallon Christian got by Crystal City 5-4. The O’Fallon offense was led by Eli Dilday’s (No. 3 ranked player in the Class of 2014) three run blast in the first inning.

In the losing effort, Tyler McClanahan and Nick Rothweiler stayed hot at the plate, collecting two hits apiece. Dane Russell also had two doubles and scored a run.

SLUH defeated Farmington 5-2 behind the pitching of Brian Howard (No. 2 ranked player in the Class of 2013). Howard went the distance striking out six, scattering five hits, and not allowing an earned run.

Holden slammed Knob Knoster 11 to 1. Austin Van Meter hurled five innings striking out twelve batters and allowing two hits. He also helped is own cause with an RBI double. Dylan Riley led the Holden offense, going four for four with two RBIs.

Purdy beat up on Lamar, 11-1. Cody Hall contributed with a double and two RBIs in the win.

Clever beat Hollister 6-0.  Jordan Burnett threw 6 1/3 innings, striking out nine batters and surrendering two hits. Chance Wolfe (ranked No. 59 in the Class of 2013) led the Clever offense with two hits and three RBIs. 

Liberty outslugged Blue Springs South 12-9. Todd Hinkley (ranked No. 44 in the Class of 2012) had a career day slamming two homeruns and picking up six RBIs and two runs scored.

Webb City got by Branson 13 to 6.  Austin White, Andrew McDaniel, and Seth Watkins each knocked in a pair of runs. Richie Peoples collected two hits and scored three times in the winning effort.

Ramsey Scott hit a two RBI double in the top of the tenth inning to lead Cape Central over Portageville, 6 to 4.

Ash Grove defeated Mansfield 7-0 behind Austin Payne’s complete game, eleven strikeout effort.

Parkview picked up a win, defeating Nixa 3-2. Landon Ruff (No. 43 ranked player in the Class of 2013) led the offense with two doubles and an RBI. Spencer Johnson (No 5. Ranked player in the Class of 2012) and Brandon Beavers each collected an RBI in the contest. Mitch Carriger picked up the win on the mound.

Austin Tribby (No. 40 ranked player in the Class of 2012)led Springfield Catholic on the mound and at the plate in a 3-1 win over visiting Monett. Tribbey went seven inning striking out thirteen batters. At the plate, Tribbey went two for three, driving in all three runs for Catholic.
