Gallman – On Saturday, PBR Mississippi traveled to the campus of Copiah Academy, as the Colonels faced off with Madison-Ridgeland Academy, on the deciding day of a three game series; Copiah Academy leads the series 1-0. Madison-Ridgeland Academy and Copiah Academy traded the lead back-and-forth, but eventually Madison-Ridgeland Academy prevailed 14-10.
Both the Colonels and the Patriots had strong offensive performances, with MRA collecting 11 hits and CA recording 12. MRA captured an early lead, off the bat of 2018 DH Hayden Barksdale, with a two out single in the first inning. The lead was immediately handed back to Copiah Academy after posting four runs in the second. The Colonels’ big inning was headed by 2017 shortstop, Copiah-Lincoln CC signee, Austin Ragland hitting a two run homer in his first at-bat along with 2017, 3B, Will Lingle hitting a double and eventually scoring another run for the Colonels.
The lead would be handed right back to the Patriots in the top of the second inning as they post eight runs. The Patriot hitters take advantage of two walks, when 2017, 3B Peyton Case and 2018 DH Hayden Barksdale double, driving in runs.
Although Copiah Academy had three players with multiple-hit games, (Noah Chapa, 2017 Brandt Jones, and Preston Johnson), and posted ten runs, it would not be enough, as the MRA Patriots would force a deciding game three.
Game 2
Madison-Ridgeland Academy falls to Copiah Academy 11-9 in the deciding game of a three game series. Copiah Academy post seven runs in the first three innings and take a 7-4 lead going into the fifth. MRA would respond in the fifth, scoring five runs and taking the lead 9-7. The Colonels would find a way to scratch two runs in the bottom of the sixth, and tie the game going into the seventh and final inning. After a quick top half for the Patriots, and a lead off hit-by-pitch, the Colonels would have a chance to put the game away.
2017 shortstop, Austin Ragland, Copiah-Lincoln CC signee, would come up to hit with a runner at second, hitting a walk-off homerun, advancing Copiah Academy in MAIS AAA playoffs.
