MOKAN Winter Showcase: 2017 and 2018 Pitchers Analysis

Prep Baseball Report Kansas/Missouri held the Kansas Preseason MOKAN Winter Open Showcase at Mac N Seitz Baseball Academy in Kansas City on February 17. Nearly 80 players in the 2018 to 2020 classes from around the region attended.
Player's profiles have been updated with profile pictures, videos and stats from the event. In the days to come, we will break down the showcase position-by-position, taking a look at the 2017 and 2018 pitchers today. Although some of these pitchers participated in other positions, this is just a break down of the pitching performance. Players are listed in alphabetical order according to state.
Coaches will have new profiles to add their dashboard on ScoutPlus and players will be able to update information on their profile with ProspectPlus.

Missouri Pitchers
Anthony Blanchette, LHP, Grain Valley (MO), 2018
Blanchette is a 5-foot-8 165-pound left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. Blanchette has a high three quarters release, throws with regular effort, loose arm action, smooth tempo, fastball at 73-75 mph, strikes, slight sink late, breaking ball has early 2-to-8 action, 62-64 mph, throws change up at near fastball arm speed, 65-68 mph.
Gary Brown Jr., RHP, Blue Springs (MO), 2017
Brown is a 5-foot-9 191-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2017 class. Brown has an over the top arm slot, fastball was 79-82 mph with slight running action, 11-to-5 action, gradual break, throws with regular effort, lands in line and falls to 1B to side to finish, strong and durable frame.
Mason Majors, RHP, Staley (MO), 2018
Majors is a 5-foot-10 175-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. Majors has slight run to his fastball, come from a short high three quarters arm slot, 79-81 mph, breaking ball has 10-to-4 spin, sweeping action, gradual break, change up at 73-72 mph, throws for a strike, arm side release, fastball arm speed, throws with regular effort, lands slightly open.
Bennett Patton, RHP, Hickman (MO), 2018
Patton is a 6-foot-3 185-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. Patton has a controlled delivery with smooth rhythm, over the top release, throws with regular effort and repeats, fastball at 78-82 mph, some flashing arm side run, breaking ball is a 10-to-4 slider, on fastball plane, late action, controllable at 69-72 mph, change up at 76 mph.
Andrew Simms, RHP, Blue Springs South (MO), 2018
Simms is a 6-foot-3 190-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. Simms has a high three quarters release, long limbed frame, controlled leg lift with slight coil, accelerates in line down the mound, fastball at 74-76 mph, high number of strikes, 11-to-5 shape on cuveball, gradual break, 64-66 mph, change up consistently down, some flashing sink, near fastball arm speed, 64-65 mph.
Luke Smith, RHP, Blue Springs (MO), 2018
Smith is a 6-foot-3 200-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. Smith has a strong frame and controlled delivery, high three quarters release, lands in line, athletic finish, fastball 80-82 mph, some with arm side release, curveball has 11-to-5 spin, some with late break and sweeping action, starts on fastball plane, change up at 74-76 mph, near fastball arm speed.
Landon Zartman, RHP, Stockton (MO), 2018
Zartman is a 6-foot-3 176-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. Zartman has an over the head wind up, three quarters release with a stab, throws with some deception in delivery and release point, in line stride, fastball at 72-74 mph, slight run, breaking ball has 11-to-5 spin, 59-60 mph, change up at 68-70 mph, near fastball arm speed.
Kansas Pitchers
Nicholas Best, RHP, Olathe East (KS), 2018
Best is a 6-foot-2 180-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Best was 82-84 mph with fastball from a three quarters release point, fastball showed late sink and high number of strikes, repeatable delivery with slight tuck at balance point, in line down the mound, throws with regular effort, curveball 11-to-5 action, gradual break, 68-72 mph, controls his change up at 74-76 mph, near fastball arm speed, some with arm side release.
Joshua Borka, RHP, Turner (KS), 2018
Bortka is a 6-foot-5 190-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Bortka is a tall and lean hurler, loose arm action, quick arm speed, over the top arm slot, slight tuck at balance point, in line stride, throws with regular effort, fastball at 84-86 mph, showed curveball and slider, curveball has 12-to-5 action, mostly at 74 mph, late action, slider has more 11-to-5 bite, late and hard action, some showing depth and ability to be a good pitch down the road. Overall, highly projectable with athleticism.
Braedyn Brewer, RHP, Blue Valley (KS), 2018
Brewer is a 6-foot-2 165-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Brewer comes from a high three quarters arm slot, throws with regular effort, repeats delivery, smooth tempo, fastball at 75-77 mph, some with late sinking action, breaking ball at 64-68 mph, early break, 11-to-5 action, showing occasional depth.
Scott Duensing, LHP, Blue Valley Northwest (KS), 2018
Duensing is a 5-foot-11 155-pound left-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Duensing showed a fastball at 76-80 mph with late movement, cutting action, heavy, 1-to-7 breaking ball with late break, 65-67 mph, change up with sink 68-69 mph, fastball arm speed, throws fastball on downhill plane at bottom of the zone, showed command of three pitches, breaking ball starts on fastball plane, loose arm action with projectable frame, still more in the tank as he continues to develop.
Blake Ripp, RHP, St. James Academy (KS), 2018
Ripp is a 5-foot-9 140-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Ripp has an over the top arm slot, loose and quick arm action, smooth delivery landing in line, fastball at 80-84 mph, flashed late sink, curveball has 11-to-5 action, tight spin, sharp and late action, 66-71 mph, change up thrown with fastball arm speed, mostly 74-76 mph, arm side release, show feel for secondary pitches, command of three pitches, arm action and frame suggest velo jump as he continues to develop.
