MOKAN Summer Trials: Middle Infield Analysis

On July 5, Prep Baseball Report-Missouri/Kansas held the MOKAN Summer Trials at LaRoche Field in Fort Scott, Kansas.  Over 60 players on the 2021-2018 classes attended. 

We will break down the event position-by-position, taking a look at the middle infielders today.  Player profiles have been updated with video, running times, throwing velocities and profile picture.  Players are listed in alphabetical order.

Player's profiles have been updated with profile pictures, videos and stats from the event. Coaches will have new profiles to add their dashboard on ScoutPlus and players will be able to update information on their profile with ProspectPlus.

Middle Infielders

Logan Alexander 2B / Olathe Northwest , KS / 2019

Alexander is a 5-foot-10 165-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 7.69 60 and has an 81 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts loaded on back leg, open stance, minimal load, strong lower half, level path through the zone, loose hands, gap to gap line drives during batting practice.  On the infield, 72 mph positional velo, three quarters release, works around ball creating momentum to throw, clean exchange on time with footwork, mostly accurate throws.

Hunter Allen RHP / Strafford , MO / 2021

Allen is a 5-foot-10 150-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2021 class.  He ran a 8.27 60 and has a 70 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts with wide base, slightly open, short stride, hands manage the bat, level path, swing produced gap-to-gap contact during hitting evaluations.  On the infield, 62 mph positional velo, over the top release, fields ball out front in athletic position, fluid footwork with clean exchange.

Peyton Basler SS / Lansing , KS / 2021

Basler is a 5-foot-7 130-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 7.58 60 and has an 80 mph exit velo. At the plate, open stance, slightly closed stride, swing produced middle to opposite field line drives, some load in the hands, hands create bat whip, quick bat speed.  On the infield, 70 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, quick catch and throw, fluid footwork to the ball, fields ball in position ready to throw, mostly accurate throws.

Cooper Bradbury SS / Fort Scott, KS / 2020

Bradbury is a 5-foot-7 145-pound left-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.26 60 and has a 79 mph exit velo. At the plate, open stance, smooth load, aggressive and quick bat speed, body stays under control, level path through the zone, swing produced middle to pull side contact with lift, flashing pull power.  On the infield, 75 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, quick to the ball with feet, quick catch and throw, fluid exchange, soft hands.

Graham Breite 2B / New Covenant Academy, MO / 2020

Breite is a 5-foot-11 135-pound left-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 8.56 60 and has a 66 mph exit velo. At the plate, open stance, smooth pre-swing rhythm, aggressive swing, pull side contact, leverage in back leg, lean and projectable build.  On the infield, 68 mph positional velo, attacks ball, throws on the run, clean exchange, mostly accurate throws.

Darius Bryan OF / Rock Bridge , MO / 2019

Bryan is an athletic 5-foot-10 175-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.34 60 and has an 82 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced stance, slightly closed stride, level path through the zone, pull side contact, occasional pull side power. On the infield, 73 mph positional velo, high three quarters arm slot, fluid footwork, clean transfer, soft hands, quick to the ball.

Gavin Clevenger OF / Liberty North, MO / 2021

Clevenger is a 5-foot-1 100-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2021 class.  He ran a 8.08 60 and has an exit velocity of 64 mph. At the plate, At the plate, open stance, smooth rhythm in load, gap to gap line drives, loose hands, creates bat whip, repeats.  On the infield, 63 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, quick feet to the ball, controls body, occasional momentum to throw, mostly accurate throws, hands and feet in sync with transfer.

Chase Curtis SS / Pittsburg , KS / 2018

Curtis is a long and lean6-foot-5 175-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 6.60 60 and has an 83 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced set up, short stride, no wasted movement in load, slight lift to bat path, gap to gap line drives, occasional power to pull gap.  On the infield, 80 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, loose arm action, quick feet to ball, accurate throws, athletic actions, cleans transition from glove to hand. 

Jack Dotterer 2B / St. Thomas Aquinas, KS / 2021

Dotterer is a 5-foot-5 113-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 8.69 60 and has a 66 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced set up, smooth rhythm in load, reverse toe tap, in line stride, gap to gap contact during batting practice, body stays under control.  On the infield, 68 mph positional velo, over the top release, momentum after catch, fluid footwork to the ball, feet and hands on time during transfer, mostly accurate throws.

Tyler Gorman 2B / Fort Scott, KS / 2019

Gorman is a 5-foot-8 135-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 6.96 60 and has a 78 mph exit velo. At the plate, open stance, controlled leg lift to in line stride, strong lower half, loose hands, goes with pitch, gap to gap line drives, feel for barrel, repeats simple and compact swing.  On the infield, 75 mph positional velo, short high three quarters release, field ball in athletic position, quick to the ball, athletic actions, quick transfer with momentum in feet, mostly accurate. 

Dylan Hufft SS / Park Hill South, MO / 2021

Hufft is a 5-foot-11 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2021 class.  He ran a 7.27 60 and has an 80 mph exit velo. At the plate, thin and open stance, smooth pre-swing rhythm, in line stride, aggressive swing, slight lift in bat path, middle to pull side line drives, feel for barrel, quick hands.  On the infield, 78 mph positional velo, loose over the top release, quick feet to ball, body stays under control, quick transfer with momentum after the catch, athletic actions, accurate throws.

Kyle Jackson C / Field Kindley , KS / 2020

Jackson is a 5-foot-11 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.07 60 and has an exit velocity of 75 mph. At the plate, thin and tall set up, slightly open, in line stride, controlled swing with quick bat speed, pull side contact, loose hands. On the infield, 75 mph positional velo, three quarters release, feet create momentum to throw, smooth footwork to the ball working on time with hands during exchange, quick glove to hand transfer, mostly accurate throws.

Nicholas Lapham SS / Dublin Jerome , OH / 2020

Lampham is a 6-foot 150-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Ohio’s 2020 class.  He ran a 7.15 60 and has a 76 mph exit velocity. At the plate, slightly open stance, short in line stride, controlled load with no wasted movement, compact swing, repeats, mostly pull side line drives.  On the infield, 74 mph positional velo, high three quarters arm slot, quick catch and throw, quick to the ball, athletic actions, made all plays cleanly during defensive evaluations.

Levi Legate SS / Blue Springs South, MO / 2019

Legate is a 5-foot-11 160-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 6.94 60 and has an 80 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, smooth load in lower half and hands, quick bat speed, loose hands, gap-to-gap approach, consistent hard contact middle of the field, compact. On the infield,  75 mph positional velocity, quick over the top release, quick feet to the ball and through the catch, momentum to throw, athletic actions, works in sync with body under control, mostly accurate throws, some with carry.

Colby McCurdy 2B / Ottawa , KS / 2020

McCurdy is a 5-foot-9 145-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 6.97 60 and has an 83 mph exit velo. At the plate, simple and repeatable, athletic stance, short in line stride,  controlled leg lift, aggressive hands with quick bat speed, level through the zone to extension, solid hard contact, gap to gap.  On the infield, 76 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, aggressive and quick to the ball, quick exchange, momentum to throw, mostly accurate, some with carry, athletic actions. 

Anian Nicolas SS / North Kansas City , MO / 2017

Nicolas is a 5-foot-8 117-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2021 class.  He ran a 7.63 60 and has a 71 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced stance, slightly closed stride, level path, loose hands, middle to pull side contact during batting practice, body stays balanced during swing.  On the infield, 70 mph positional velo, loose high three quarters release, fields ball in athletic position, clean transfer with fluid footwork.

Jace Peters 2B / Blue Valley High, KS / 2021

Peters is a 5-foot-11 145-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 7.46 60 and has an exit velocity of 74 mph. At the plate, hands work inside the ball, smooth and simple load, short to contact, slightly closed stride, mostly pull side line drives during batting practice.  On the infield, 73 mph positional velocity, over the top release, fluid footwork to the ball, soft hands, quick exchange on time with footwork, momentum after the catch, athletic, mostly accurate throws, some with carry.

Evan Troike 2B / Girard , KS / 2019

Troike is a strong 5-foot-11 150-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 7.10 60 and has a 79 mph exit velocity. At the plate, wide stance, short stride, mostly pull side line drives, minimal load, quick hands with a level path. On the infield, three quarters release, quick catch and throw, feet and hands work together, mostly accurate throws, smooth actions, 75 mph positional velo. 

Jaden Vanek RHP / Lansing, KS / 2021

Vanek is a 5-foot-5 115-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 8.13 60 and has an exit velocity of 64 mph. At the plate, balanced stance, smooth load, toe tap, swing produced line drives gap to gap, loose hands creating bat whip.  On the infield, 58 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, quick transfer with fluid footwork, soft hands.

Dylan Ward 2B / Lansing , KS / 2021

Dylan Ward is a projectable 6-foot 163-pound left-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 7.50 60 and has a 70 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, hands walk away from stride, in line stride, level path, mostly pull side contact, flashed pull power.  On the infield, 63 mph positional velocity, high three quarters release, quick feet to the ball, quick transfer, soft hands, field ball out front. 

Jake Wheeler SS / Stockton, MO / 2018

Wheeler is a lean and projectable 5-foot-11 150-pound left-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 6.81 60 and has an 80 mph exit velocity. At the plate, simple and repeatable, balanced stance, minimal load with no wasted movement, short stride, quick hands and aggressive bat speed, repeats, mostly pull side contact during hitting evaluations.  On the infield, athletic actions, smooth and under control, quick transfer and throw, high three quarters release, soft hands, plays though the ball, accurate throws, 81 mph positional velo, throws have carry. 

Brett Wiemers 2B / Pittsburg, KS / 2019

Wiemers is a 6-foot 165-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 7.30 60 and has a 76 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, in line stride, hands manage the bat, gap to gap contact, occasional pull side power, level path with high finish in hands.  On the infield, 71 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, fluid footwork to the ball, clean exchange, momentum to throw, quick transfer, accurate throws.
