Louisiana State Games: Quick Hits (Underclass Pitchers)
October 10, 2023
Baton Rouge, LA - The Louisiana State Games were held on Saturday September 30, 2023 and Sunday October 1, 2023, at Louisiana State University, home of the defending NCAA Division I National Champions. The invite-only event consisted of some of the top uncommitted prospects from Louisiana's 2024-2027 classes, as well as 17 other prospects who've already announced their college commitment. All players in attendance went through an extended pro-style workout, on Saturday morning, that included batting practice using Trackman and Blast, the 60 yard dash using Swift Performance, and much more. After the completion of the workout on Saturday afternoon, all players in attendance were able to compete in one game on Saturday evening, as well as a second game on Sunday. This was one of the most talented events that we've ever had and the players in attendance were able to show off their skills in front of a dozen or more college coaches.
Today, we continue our post-event coverage with a closer look at some of the underclass pitchers who stood out.

UNDERCLASS PITCHERS (2026 & 2027 CLASS)
+ 2026 RHP Logan Sorrel (Dunham HS)
Projectable 6'3" 180 lbs. frame. It had been two years since we last saw Sorrel, as a member of our Jr. Future Games team as a 13 year old, and he showed that he's certainly made some significant jumps since then. The Dunham HS product took the mound on Sunday morning in Game 4 of the State Games and was dominant in two shutout innings of work with 4 K's. He ran his FB up to 90 mph, sitting 87-89 mph, with exploding life through the zone and spin rates in the 2300-2639 RPM range. His 78-81 mph SL was sharp with late downward action, and he was able to land it for strikes and bury it with two strikes. Sorrel's performance cemented himself as the top right-hander in the state's 2026 class and is a name that a lot of college recruiters have circled coming out of the fall.

6’3” 180 lbs.
The @PBR_Uncommitted RHP collected whiffs with both his FB & SL, on route to racking up 4 K’s in 2 scoreless IP, in a dominant #LAStateGames23 outing. #BeSeen

+ 2026 RHP Hayes Holton (Loranger HS)
Athletic 6'3" 175 lbs. wiry frame with plenty of room to add strength. The Loranger HS product was the Game 3 starter, under the lights on Saturday night at Alex Box Stadium, and he showed tremendous upside. Holton is an athletic and easy mover down the slope with a super quick arm. He sat 86-90 mph with his FB with some cutting action at times, while also showing feel for a mid-70's SL and 78-80 mph CH. There's likely another jump in velocity coming for Holton, especially as he fills out his frame, which is why he presents a high upside.
+ 2026 RHP Mills Richardson (Catholic BR HS)
6'1" 160 lbs. long and lean frame. Richardson is another projectable right-hander coming out of the "arm factory" that is Catholic High School. The former Future Gamer tossed a clean two innings in Sunday's Game 5 action, collecting a couple of strikeouts along the way. He worked 81-84 mph with his FB and showed good command to both sides of the plate. Richardson mixed in a "10-4" shaped 70-74 mph that he landed for strikes, but it was his feel for a late-fading mid-70's CH that really caught our attention. Both of his strikeouts were obtained using the CH to left-handed hitters, as he was able to deceive them by maintaining the same arm speed as his FB.
+ 2026 RHP Alexander Harwell (Pearl River HS)
Durable 5'11" 165 lbs. frame with a strong lower-half. The Pearl River HS product uses a longer arm swing to release the ball from a near over-the-top slot throughout a repeatable delivery. Harwell sat 81-84 mph with his FB, that played up in the zone, with spin rates of 2350-2492 RPM's. His 76-79 mph CB, however, is what got us really excited, as it exhibited "11-5" shape with elite spin rates ranging from 2900-3077 RPM's. Harwell also flashed feel for a 78-79 mph CH, giving him a solid three-pitch mix.

5’11” 165 lbs.
Here’s a look at an @PBR_Uncommitted sophomore from the #LAStateGames23. Longer arm swing, near OTT slot, spun a really good CB. #BeSeen

+ 2026 RHP Cole Guidroz (Central BR HS)
5'11" 170 lbs. athletic and wiry frame. The Central BR HS moves well down the slope and creates some "cross-fire" deception by slightly striding across his body, while releasing the ball from a lower 3/4 slot. He sat 83-85 mph with his FB, while showing glove-side command down in the zone, which paired well with his low-70's "10-4" shaped CB. The Wildcats bring back senior southpaw Grayden Harris this spring, but will have to replace a couple of arms from last year's rotation, and Guidroz looks like he can be one of those guys, after his State Games outing.
