Louisiana Player Of The Year: Jacob Pearson
June 19, 2017
The 2017 high school season yielded many stellar individual performances across all corners of Louisiana. But one player stood above the rest:
Jacob Pearson.
Pearson, a senior outfielder from West Monroe HS, delivered a statistically dominant season while helping lead his team to 38-3 record, and a class 5A state runner-up finish.
The 6-foot, 195-pound Pearson, hit .523 with a .611 on-base percentage, 13 home runs, 18 doubles, 6 triples, drove in 41 runs, scored 57 runs, stole 21 bases, and drew 21 walks, while only striking out 9 times. A Louisiana State recruit, Pearson was also selected in the 3rd round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Los Angeles Angels.
Pearson’s all-around performance has earned him the 2017 Prep Baseball Report Louisiana Player of the Year honors.
Pearson edged out a highly competitive field of candidates, selected by Louisiana Scouting Director Trey Sofio and his team of area scouts who covered the season throughout the spring. Player of the Year nominations are provided by high school coaches across the state. Player of the Year criteria includes, but not limited to, on-field production and positive character qualities that represent the state.
