Louisiana Draft Preview

By Trey Sofio
Louisiana Scouting Director

The 2015 Major League Draft takes place June 8-10. In advance of the draft, Prep Baseball Report is posting a summary of each state in the coverage area with scouting reports on the top high school draft prospects.

Louisiana has consistently produced high school hitters the last few years and figures to see another bat go off the board in the first few rounds, though he doesn’t rank as the top prospect. That distinction goes to RHP Nick Lee (South Beauregard HS, LA), a Louisiana-Lafayette recruit. The hitter is Louisiana’s No. 2 prospect in 1B Kolten Kendrick (Oak Forest HS, LA). There is a good mix of profiles in the state with the power-armed righty in Lee, the big bopper in Kendrick, the pitchability lefty in LHP Kale Breaux (Sulphur HS, LA) and the raw, but toolsy outfielders in Josh Magee (Franklinton HS, LA) and Dayton Dugas (Sam Houston HS, LA).

Top Prospects

1. Nick Lee, RHP, South Beauregard HS, LA
A 6-foot-4, 190-pound right-hander, Lee has an athletic, lanky frame with wide shoulders and room to add strength. He has a long arm action with some stiffness and wrap in the back, but it’s lightning quick through a high-3/4 release.
