McLean High School righthanded pitcher Will Liverpool has committed to attend West Virginia University in the fall of 2017. Liverpool is currently ranked ninth in the Prep Baseball Report Virginia/DC Class of 2017 Rankings and was the second-highest ranked pitcher that was still uncommitted. Liverpool is the second current Highlander to commit to attend a Division I college, joining Connor Grammes (2016, MIF, Xavier). McLean had a strong season in 2015 with a young team to follow up their State Tournament appearance in 2014.

Liverpool has an athletic frame and throws from a three-quarters arm slot. His arm action is loose and he has a lightning quick arm, generating easy velocity. He has simple mechanics and his shoulders are closed and slightly downhill at footstrike. He has good direction and comes to an athletic finish. Liverpool’s fastball hit 86 mph repeatedly at the Underclass Invitational in February and ran 83-86 mph with late sink to it. His slider needs work but showed a lot of potential and had 10/4 action to it, running 69-71 mph. His change-up was inconsistent and he slowed his arm down on it a bit, but it also has potential and ran 68-70 mph.

When he arrives at West Virginia, Liverpool should be able to immediately contribute to the Mountaineers as a power arm out of the bullpen. During his career in Morgantown, Liverpool has the potential to develop into a weekend starter as he adds velocity by adding strength to his frame and he gains consistency with his offspeed pitches. He has the arm talent to potentially be a professional prospect at some point in his career.

Congratulations Will!!!
