As we find ourselves entering the beginning of the Fall season, it is time for Prep Baseball Report Louisiana to release its initial class of 2019 rankings.
It’s been a long Summer, and even though many Freshmen around the state saw limited action during last Spring, there have been many rising Sophomores that have impressed through various outlets this Summer. The initial list sees 36 players in total, which will grow, expand and change in the months and years to come, as players age and mature.
After an outstanding Freshmen season, an outstanding showing at the Underclass Trials in May, and capped off with a spot on the Team USA 15U roster, Louisiana State commit Cade Doughty (Denham Springs HS) takes the No. 1 slot in Louisiana’s class of 2019 rankings. Doughty has a strong, physical frame playing both infield and outfield. He shows above average athleticism, quality arm strength, and is the most advanced bat in the class. During 1st round playoff action last Spring, Doughty faced off against future LSU teammate Landon Marceaux. Marceaux had his good stuff on that day, but Doughty was not fazed, as he squared up 92 mph and 91 mph fastballs, respectively, in his first two at-bats. Marceaux eventually would adjust, mixing in a slider at 82 mph, and Doughty squared it up nearly sending it in the right-center gap. Ever since that day, Doughty has made significant waves around the state and region, culminating with his commitment to LSU.
Future Games participant, Seth Traweek (Ouachita Christian HS) checks in at No. 2. Although he didn’t see much mound time for the perennial powerhouse Ouachita Christian as a Freshmen, Traweek had an outstanding summer. A lanky, athletic 6-foot-4 frame, Traweek projects exceptionally well and shows quality present stuff. He ran his fastball up to 87 mph this summer and showed a solid breaking ball with shape and depth at the Future Games.
Catchers Hayden Travinski (Loyola College Prep) and Alex Milazzo (Zachary HS) check in at No.’s 3 and 4 respectively. Milazzo was a standout at the Underclass Showcase in July, where he had a pop time 1.86.
Lamarcus Jones (Dutchtown HS) a standout from this May’s Underclass Trials checks in at No. 6 after posting a blazing 6.65 60 yard dash. Clint Hargrave (Ouachita Christian HS) checks in at No. 10 after impressive showings at the Underclass Trials and the Underclass Showcase, showing quality defensive ability posting a 2.01 pop time.
