Kell beats Creekview in their Home Opener 3-2
February 25, 2021
Kell traveled to Creekview on Tuesday night for the Grizzlies home opener of the 2021 season. Creekview has a young offense powered by Samford commit Heath Clevenger on the mound. Kell handed 2023 Boston Forbes the ball for the start. The sophomore wasted no time as he retired the side in order in the top of the first. Forbes commanded the fastball down in the zone, and turned to his slider when he was ahead in the count for the swing and misses.
LHP Ryan McCarron (2022) took to the mound for the Grizzlies. After a leadoff walk he managed to get a double play ball to end the inning. McCarron battled throughout his start, and was able to strand multiple Kell baserunners after a couple defensive mistakes by Creekview. He tallied 8 strikeouts in his start with no earned runs.
Kell held a 1-0 lead for most of the game. 2023 second baseman Easton Sears nearly gave the Grizzlies the lead with a hard hit ball down the line that would have scored 2, but senior first baseman Gabe Newcomb made the stop to end the inning.
Forbes had the Grizzlies shut down most of the game. They were finally able to get something going with a leadoff double by Grant Anderson, followed by a hard hit ball to centerfield by Mason Hicks to score the first run of the game for Creekview. Ben Allen would then send a sacrifice fly to center to make it a 3-2 game.
The Grizzlies made a late threat in the bottom of the 7th when Easton Sears got a two out walk, and stole second base, but came up short with a fly out to end the game. Brady McDevitt would get the save for the Longhorns.
The Longhorn offense was led by senior Nate Halperin paired with a fantastic outing by Boston Forbes. Kell will travel to LakePoint for the 2nd week of the Georgia Dugout Club tournament and Creekview squared off against Central Forsyth Wednesday night.
