Junior Future Games: Day 2
July 31, 2020
The 2020 Junior Future Games is off and running at the LakePoint Sports Complex in Emerson, GA. The event features some future prospects from around the country in the 2024 & 2025 grad classes. Team Arizona brought 13 players on this year's roster that will all be looking to show off their talent to the rest of the nation & PBR scouting staff. All games are live streamed through Playsight on the Junior Future Games homepage.
On Wednesday, July 29th Team Arizona started off their schedule with a pro-style workout where they showed off some of their individuals tools and recorded measurable statistics. These sessions were videotaped and will go on individual PBR profile pages along with showcase data and scouting notes throughout the week. After the showcases complete, teams spend the next three days competing in tournament play versus the other PBR select teams from around the country. Team Arizona started it's tournament play off this yesterday with a doubleheader against Team Alabama & Mid-Atlantic, followed by two games versus Team Georgia & Team Carolina today.
Below you will find some highlights from Game #3 & #4, including some players that stood out on the day:
GAME #3 RECAP
This morning, Team Arizona suffered a loss to a deep Team Georgia who jumped out to an early lead with some strong all-around skills up and down the lineup. Arizona made a late inning push but came up just short, losing 6-2. 2024 RHP Gavin Short (Sunnyslope) started the game with 2024 RHP Gavin Darling (MI) coming in relief, doing their best to keep the damage to a minimum. Arizona barreled up several balls in game and showed some strong defensive skills, highlighted by a big double at the end of the game from 2024 Coy Allman who one-hopped the LCF field fence with a hard hit line drive.
GAME #4 RECAP
This afternoon, Team Arizona faced off against another strong Team Carolina team who showed deep pitching on the mound, touching up to 85mph on the day. Arizona led by a run most of the game before surrendering runs in the bottom of the 6th, dropping the game 6-2. Team Arizona used the rest of the pitching staff on the afternoon who threw strikes the whole game and let their strong defense make plays. 2025 OF Bode Acton had a big day at the plate
PROSPECT NOTES:
2024 C/OF Coy Allman (PA)- 5-foot-9 150-pounds, young balanced frame, athletic body & actions. Showed some upside and projectability, young for his grad class. Hits from a narrow open stance, using body control in leg lift, landing square & early. Versatile defender who can play almost anywhere on the field. Played catcher, outfield and even pitched a bit on the week. Made a diving catch with full extension in day two in CF.
2025 OF/1B Bode Acton (Verrado)- 5-foot-11 160-pounds, body stands out for the grad class, young frame with some projectability. High upside as a left-handed hitting outfield prospect that we will hear a lot about in the future. Hits in an athletic base with quiet pre-pitch movements, using a slight knee turn with slight load of the hands. Gap to gap approach that really broke out in game #4. Hit a hard LD RBI single to CF to give Team Arizona a lead. Also hit a deep line drive double to LCF. Tracked down a couple balls in centerfield on the week with a sure first step.
2024 3B/OF Aidan Yancy (Casteel)- 5-foot-9 145-pounds, young thin frame, some athleticism, plenty of room to add strength. Versatile defender who can play INF, OF and pitch. Worked 76-78mph with his FB on day 1 of the event. Offensively, he turned it up on day two with a couple hard line drives down the LF. Showed some quickness in a level swing.
