Junior College Prospect Rankings 51-100
October 31, 2019
The junior college ranks are again loaded with talent. Although still early in the process, a handful of pitchers at the top are potential Day One selections, while a trio of middle infielders recently put together highly productive fall seasons and could be considered during the early-to-mid rounds of Day Two.
With that said, junior college prospects have had limited impact in the early rounds of the MLB draft the past two years. A total of 18 have been selected in the top 10 rounds—nine each in 2018 and 2019. The talent is there, but the scarcity of selection is likely due to signability and a greater risk for clubs than a similar four-year college prospect may possess.
Furthermore, the 2019 draft saw just four drafted in the top five rounds: RHP Jackson Rutledge(Washington, first round), LHP Antoine Kelly (Milwaukee, second round), 2B Ivan Johnson(Cincinnati, fourth round) and RHP Gunner Mayer (Philadelphia, fifth round). The 2018 draft also saw a total of four taken in the top five rounds: C Josh Breaux (Yankees, second round), RHP Blake Rivera (San Francisco, fourth round), RHP Aaron Ashby (Milwaukee, fourth round), RHP Keaton Winn (San Francisco, fifth round) and RHP Trey Riley (Atlanta, fifth round).
Today we present Nos. 51-100. Tomorrow we will release Nos. 11-49 and our Top 10 is scheduled to include full reports and video next week on Monday, Nov 4.
