The JUCO Wire is a new weekly feature that will continue to build on the Prep Baseball Report’s unparalleled coverage of amatuer baseball across the country. The JUCO Wire will provide updated information on junior college transfers, players moving on, who’s hot, and any other relevant news from around the country.

The JUCO Wire is a compilation of boots-and-the-ground scouting, information collected from our state-specific scouting staff, outside submissions, and any other news and nuggets gleaned throughout the year.

Twin Classic (FL): Analysis

  • PBR Florida Scouting Director Doug Freeman was at the Twin Classic in Auburndale, Florida. This week he posted highlights and scouting reports from the event complete with video.

  • Eastern Florida State RHP Tyler Keysor (Olympia, FL, 2016) was one of the biggest winners from the event and cemented himself as one of the top Florida JUCO draft prospects. At 6-foot-5, 200-pounds working from a low ¾ arm slot, Keysor worked 90-92 touching 94 mph with his fastball.

Transfer Wire

  • OF Jack Cavanaugh (St. Laurence, IL, 2016) has transferred to Joliet JC (IL) from Evansville. Cavanaugh was ranked No. 150 in the PBR Illinois Class of 2016 Ranks.

  • INF/RHP Zach Zientarski (Boca Raton, FL, 2016) has transferred to Palm Beach State CC from Pittsburgh. Zientarksi was ranked No. 96 in the PBR Florida Class of 2016 and No. 344 in the PBR Overall Ranks.

  • RHP Trevor Holloway (Venice, FL, 2016) has transferred to Chipola JC from High Point. Holloway was ranked No. 67 in the PBR Florida Class of 2016 and No. 225 in the PBR Overall Ranks.

  • INF Morgan McCullough (West Seattle, WA, 2016) has transferred to Chipola from Oregon. McCullough was drafted in the 33rd round by the Seattle Mariners out of high school.

  • C Alex Webb (Columbia Central, TN, 2015) has transferred to Chipola from Alabama. Webb was ranked No. 7 in the PBR Tennessee Class of 2015 and No. 101 in the PBR Overall Ranks.

  • LHP Jared Padgett (Graceville, FL, 2015) has transferred to Chipola from Mississippi State. Padgett was ranked No. 47 in the PBR Florida Class of 2015 and No. 153 in the PBR Overall Ranks.

  • LHP Thomas Leone (East Coweta, GA, 2016) has transferred to Chipola from Trevecca Nazarene.

  • RHP Zak Sprankle (Jupiter, FL, 2016) has transferred to Broward JC from FGCU.

  • RHP Michael Schappell (West Broward, FL, 2015) has transferred to Broward JC from Jacksonville.

  • INF Jeremiah Adams (Tabor Academy, MA, 2016) has transferred to Broward JC from Oklahoma. Adams was ranked No. 15 in the PBR New England Class of 2016 and No. 331 in the PBR Overall Ranks.

  • SS Ben Elsen (St. Xavier, OH, 2016) has transferred to Cuyahoga CC from Evansville.

  • LHP Chandler Coates (Republic, MO, 2016) has transferred to Howard JC from New Mexico.

  • INF Jaxon Williams (B.F. Terry, TX, 2016) has transferred to Howard JC from Arkansas.

  • OF Coll Stanley (Strake Jesuit, TX, 2015) has transferred to Howard JC from Texas A&M.

  • OF Ty Manning (Coppell, TX, 2016) has transferred to Howard JC from Abilene Christian.

  • OF Colin Laird (Klein Collins, TX, 2016) has transferred to Howard JC from Villanova.

  • RHP Noah Miller (Van Buren, AR, 2016) has transferred to Howard JC from Arkansas.

  • RHP Jacob Salim (IMG Academy, FL, 2016) has transferred to Howard JC from George Washington.

  • SS Alex Ronnenbaum (Blue Valley West, KS, 2016) has transferred to Howard JC from Arkansas. Ronnenbaum was ranked No. 16 in the PBR Kansas Class of 2016 and No. 351 in the PBR Overall Ranks.

  • RHP Zach Wright (Alvin, TX, 2016) has transferred to Howard JC from Rice.

  • RHP Ryan McKay (Smithson Valley, TX, 2015) has transferred to Howard JC from LSU.

  • OF Wyatt Featherston (Green Mountain, CO, 2016) has transferred to College of Southern Nevada from Western Kentucky. Featherston was ranked No. 9 in the PBR Colorado Class of 2016 and No. 212 in the PBR Overall Ranks. Featherston was drafted in the 34th round out of high school by the Colorado Rockies.

  • IF Beau Campana (Bishop Gorman, NV, 2016) has transferred to College of Southern Nevada from New Mexico.

  • RHP Ed O’Bannon III has transferred to College of Southern Nevada from Pacific.

  • RHP Jordon Wyke (Centennial, NV, 2015) has transferred to College of Southern Nevada from San Diego State.

  • RHP Ryan McDonald (West Ashley, NV, 2016) has transferred to College of Southern Nevada from West Virginia.

  • INF Ryan Kono (Millani, HI, 2016) has transferred to College of Southern Nevada from Cal State Bakersfield.

  • LHP Joey Baran (Hazelton Area, PA, 2015) has transferred to Lackawanna JC from Stony Brook. Baran was ranked No. 17 in the PBR Pennsylvania Class of 2015 and No. 261 in the PBR Overall Ranks.

Moving On

  • 1B Bryce Ball (Mason City Newman Catholic, IA, 2016) has committed to Dallas Baptist out of NIACC. Ball was ranked No. 14 in the PBR Iowa Class of 2016. In his freshman season at NIACC he hit .419 with seven home runs and 52 RBIs.

  • LHP Jarret Olson (St. Bede, IL, 2016) has committed to Michigan State out of Parkland JC. Olson was ranked No. 165 in the PBR Illinois Class of 2016. He also is a member of the basketball team at Parkland.

  • INF Matt Gammon (Shelby County, KY, 2016) has committed to Eastern Illinois out of Southeastern Illinois JC. Gammon was ranked No. 71 in the PBR Kentucky Class of 2016.

Cuyahoga (OH): Updates and Scout Day

  • Cuyahoga CC will be hosting its Scout Day on October 4th starting at 4 PM, the day starts with a pro style workout followed by an intrasquad game. Here are some of the top uncommitted sophomores to watch at the event.

  • RHP Doug Smith (Central Crossing, OH, 2015) had a breakout freshman year going 8-3 with a 2.21 ERA, but missed last season recovering from Tommy John surgery. He was up to 89 in a recent bullpen and projects as the team's No. 1 starter for 2018.

  • RHP Dustin Redish (Harrison Central, OH, 2016) was 89-91 two weeks ago at the Puma Classic and was the team's closer last year. This year he is slated for a rotation spot.

  • 1B Garrett Robberts (Utica, OH, 2016) hit .316 with eight home runs and 16 doubles. Robberts won the NJCAA Division II Gold Glove award at first base last season.

  • 1B/DH Matt Hilderbrandt (Bowmanville, ON, 2016) is a left-handed power hitter that lead the team with 13 home runs and 56 RBIs.

Bellhaven (MS) Fall JUCO Tounrnament

  • Bellhaven University in Jackson, Mississippi is hosting its annual JUCO Tournament starting on Monday. The tournament runs Monday-Friday with three games a day at Smith-Wills Stadium.
