As 2017 sets in, spring, and more importantly baseball season, is right around the corner. This week, PBR Texas, zeroes in on some uncommitted sophomores who are ready to make their mark on 2017, and will be valued greatly by college recruiters. Today, we look at eight uncommitted position players from our 2019 Ranking.
Updated Rankings will be released at the beginning of February, after our I-10 Border Battle and The North Texas Prospect Games.
+ Nate Rombach, C, Mansfield Legacy HS, Ranked #31
6-foot-3, 185-pound, wiry strong frame. The sophomore's pop times ranged from 2.03-2.08, clean exchange, quick footwork for his age. The arm strength is above average for his age and should continue to improve. Caught some upper-tier arms at the event and handled low-90's velo and low-80's offspeed stuff with ease. Offensively, the right-handed hitter starts from a hunched over stance showing good pop to the pull side. Has good leverage coming from his long arms and can handle balls out over the plate. Hammered a double to the left-center field wall for an rbi going 1-for-2 with a walk on the day.
+ Peyton Chatagnier, SS, Cypress Fair HS, Ranked #35
5-foot-10, 150-pound, lean, projectable frame. The shortstop flashes good range with advanced footwork, good arm action with carry in the arm. Aggressive player, attacks ground balls and takes charge on pop-ups. The right-handed hitter has good rhythm, smooth swing and loose finish. Long stride runner.
+ Kaden Teafatiller, C, Rider HS, Ranked #37
6-foot-2, 180-pound frame. Athletic runner with long strides. He showed good arm strength from behind the plate. Offensively, he went 1-for-3 in the first game with a base hit up the middle and a hard ground ball to second. Game 2 he was 1-for-3 with a base hit to center field and a hard line drive to right field.
+ Jace Jung, SS, MacArthur HS, Ranked #41
5-foot-10, 165-pound frame. All-around athlete with fluid movement, strong arm, quick feet, and good range in the middle of the infield. Powerful bat that generates solid contact on upward plane and extends well through the zone.
+ Wyatt Rohmer, SS, Byron Nelson, Ranked #42
5-foot-11, 160-pound frame. Athletic build with well defined lower half and strength in the hands. The right-handed hitter has a solid set-up at the plate with quiet rhythm and a high leg-kick with balance as he waits for the ball to cross into the hitting zone. Engages the lower half in his swing with good weight transfer. Showed high level bat speed and strength finishing the barrel through contact on both fastballs and sliders. Has the ability to keep his hands back and hit off-speed pitches with leverage. On a triple in the left-center gap he was a 4.65 on the turn showing good acceleration between first and second. He also had a well-struck deep fly ball to left field and a base hit on a slider. Aggressive base-runner stealing three bags on the day. Defensively he showed good range at shortstop.
+ Chad Ricker, C/IF, Argyle HS, Ranked #43
5-foot-11, 150-pound frame. Defensively has advanced, clean arm action with solid exchange and release. Accurate thrower with 2.2 pop times that will improve with added strength and development. Moved to shortstop for an inning and his defensive actions show the ability to play multiple positions. The switch-hitter batted left-handed all day with a very simple, slightly crouched set-up that produces natural lift. Consistently hit balls on the barrel going 3-for-5 with a double and single to right field, a base hit in the six-hole and two fly balls to right field.
+ Bo Willis, C, Magnolia HS, Ranked #47
6-foot-1, 186-pound, strong frame. Willis put together a very good summer in 2016. And although we did not get to see much of him this fall because he was playing football, we are looking forward to seeing him in action this spring.
+ Michael Cervantes, SS, Clear Springs HS, Ranked #48
5-foot-10, 170 pound strong frame. Has advanced defensive actions for his class. The arm works quick at 79 mph across the diamond. Displayed excellent footwork, quick feet, and the ability to throw on the run. Offensively has a balanced set-up, slightly crouched stance, loose finish. Hit two balls on the barrel during game, a fly ball to left and a line-out to shortstop. Ran a 7.14 60-yard dash, scored 79 mph exit velo. Cervantes also got on the mound for an inning. Working from a high-¾ slot with short, clean arm action, his fastball ranged from 79-81 mph. Repeats delivery and shows good feel for the strike zone locating down and away from right-handed hitters. Slider has 11-5 shape with good depth at 70 mph.
+ Jake Combs, SS/RHP, Cypress Ranch HS, Ranked #49
6-foot, 170-pound, wiry-strong frame with long limbs. Very projectable, all-around athlete that showed advanced actions on the infield with quick exchange and great footwork. We also saw Combs on the mound this fall, where he works from low-¾ slot with good arm-side run, heavy life on his fastball 80-83 mph, topping out at 84 mph. Slider has slurve-type action at 65 mph. Ran a 7.2 60-yard dash.
