Inside the Recruitment: 2018 RHP/1B Riley Perlich Commits to Wright State
February 23, 2017
By Phil Wade
Indiana Executive Director
2016 Future Games participant Riley Perlich (Carroll HS) recently committed to Wright State.
PBR: Ultimately, why did you choose to commit to Wright State?
Perlich: One of the main reasons I chose Wright State is because of the relationship I built with the coaching staff, especially pitching coach Alex Sogard. Their baseball program has a great tradition and overall were the perfect fit for me.
PBR: Where did they first see you compete?
Perlich: They first saw me compete last summer in Nashville, Tennessee.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Perlich: I was also considering Indiana, Michigan State, and Eastern Michigan.
PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it as expected? Easy/Difficult?
Perlich: At first I did not know what to expect about the recruiting process, but it turned out to be a great experience because I was able to get a feel for several colleges and their programs.
PBR: What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career after HS?
Perlich: I was looking for a successful program where I would have an opportunity to make an impact right away. I was also looking for a program that would develop me as a person and a player.
PBR: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Was there a particular game or event you feel turned the corner for you?
Perlich: The recruiting process started to heat up for me this past summer, especially after the PBR Future Games.
PBR: At what point did you realize you were a college caliber player and become serious about taking your game to the next level?
Perlich: I had aspirations of playing baseball at a very young age. I realized I was a college caliber player after I started receiving interest during my freshman year.
PBR: Who is the best player you have faced in Indiana, and why?
Perlich: The best player I have faced in Indiana is Skylar Szynski from Penn High School. Not only could he throw in the mid 90's, he could rake too.
PBR: What advice would you give young baseball players striving to get where you are at?
Perlich: I would tell them to work as hard as they can and keep a positive attitude.
PBR: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?
Perlich: The most memorable moment would be pitching in the sectional championship game last year.
PBR: Preview your high school season for us. How do you feel your team will be? What are your expectations and goals?
Perlich: I have high expectations for our team this year. We have many returning players with a strong pitching staff. My expectation is for us to win a state championship.
PBR: Who do you play for in the summer? What has been your most memorable experience with them?
Perlich: I play for the Summit City Sluggers. My most memorable experience so far is winning the Cincy Flames World Series Tournament our 15U year.
