Tyler Kean, RHP, Springboro HS, Class of 2019

PBR: Why did you choose Ohio State?

Kean:I chose Ohio State because ever since I was a kid I have wanted to play baseball at the D1 level. I visited the campus and met the coaching staff, and it felt like the right place for me.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Kean: The other schools that I was considering were Miami (OH), Indiana, and Wright State.

PBR: Where did Coach Beals first see you?  How did your relationship develop with them?

Kean:Coach Beals first saw me at one of the Ohio State pitching camps. Before that Gregg Beemer with the Dayton Classics had been talking to Coach Beals about me. I talked to Coach Beals several times after the camp and became more comfortable with his coaching philosophy.

PBR: Ohio State is close to home.  How much of a role did distance play in your decision?

Kean: Ohio State being close to home played a key role in my decision. There will be more opportunities for my family to see me play.

PBR: You are considered a two-way prospect by many colleges, what are you and the coaching staff’s expectations once you step on the OSU campus?

Kean: When I step on the OSU campus, both my and the coaching staff’s expectations are for me to be a pitcher.

PBR:  Who do you play for in the summer and what is your most memorable experience?

Kean:In the summer, I play for the Dayton Classics.  The most memorable experience for me was finishing fourth in the Buckeye Elite Tournament.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process?

Kean:The recruiting process progressed much more quickly than I expected. I hadn’t anticipated choosing a college this early, but I was presented with an opportunity that I couldn’t pass up.

PBR: Who is the best hitter that you have ever faced?

Kean:The best hitter I have ever faced is Justin McConnell.  Fortunately, it has just been in practice.
