Nate Meyer, SS, Bishop Watterson, Class of 2018

PBR: Why did you choose Cincinnati?

Meyer: I chose Cincinnati because I feel like I fit in best with that school/program. I connected well with Coach Neal and the coaching staff, I loved their facilities and their campus, and I love the Queen City.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Meyer: I have attended camps at Xavier, Dayton, Ohio State, and Florida Gulf Coast. I have also been talking to Marshall.

PBR: How does it feel to be a part of a Division 1 program?

Meyer:  It feels amazing. The hard work and training has definitely paid off with the reward of being offered by such a great school such as the University of Cincinnati. My sisters also played Division 1 volleyball so there was a little pressure of catching up with what they achieved.

PBR:  Where did the Coach Neal first see you compete and how did your relationship develop with the rest of the coaching staff?

Meyer: Coach Neal first saw me play when I was a freshman and Watterson was playing in the final four at Huntington Park. He has watched me several times since at Watterson and with Ohio Elite. The assistant coaches have also seen me play for both programs as well. I got to know the coaches well when I attended the their camps.

PBR: You are only a Junior, how important was it for you to commit early and are you finished with the recruiting process?

Meyer: Yes I am fully committed to Coach Neal and UC. It is a great feeling to be done with it because now there is a lot of stress gone for during the spring and summer when I play in front of coaches. I can play loose and not worry about playing perfectly in front of coaches of other programs.

PBR: Was the recruiting process what you expected?

Meyer: It is not what I expected. I did not know what to expect actually. I had very little knowledge of what I was doing going into this, but with the help of my coaches and parents, I got the exposure I needed. It was a fun process too, not just stressful. It was fun to talk to different coaches, go to different camps, and learn more about programs that I am interested in.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most exciting experience playing summer ball?

Meyer: For the past couple of years I have been playing with Ohio Elite. It was a lot of fun and a great time because I loved my coach, Kelly Ratcliff, and he was great at getting our names out to different programs. We played at very nice facilities and faced really talented organizations. I think the most exciting experience I had playing summer ball recently was when we were playing at Huntington Park in the finals for the Buckeye Elite tournament. It was so much fun and it was the nicest field I have ever played on.

PBR: What were your stats last season?

Meyer: Some stats from my last high school season were a .947 fielding percentage with 95 total chances and 5 errors. I batted a .294 batting average and.459 slugging percentage.
