Inside the Recruitment: '17 UTL Dominic Frengel commits to Ohio Dominican
November 28, 2016
Dominic Frengel, Worthington Kilbourne, Class of 2017
PBR: Why did you choose Ohio Dominican?
Frengel: The school is close to home, and I really like the coaches and baseball program. ODU will meet my education needs, which will be pre-physical therapy.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Frengel: Walsh University.
PBR: Where did Ohio Dominican first see you? How did your relationship develop with coaching staff?
Frengel: The coaches watched me play this past summer with the Triple Crown Royals. They contacted me after a tournament in Michigan where I hit a grand slam. Coach Antonides was there. Soon after they asked me to visit. Coaches Antonides and Hull stayed in touch with me to check in to see how I was doing. I also went to watch the team play.
PBR: Coach Antonides was hired as the head coach for ODU this summer, how does it feel to be a part of his first recruiting class?
Frengel: It's exciting. It's a good feeling to be among his first recruits. I'm looking forward to playing for him and with my teammates.
PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
Frengel: I expect to be competing for an infield opportunity. I've been a versatile player and consistent hitter and I hope to use those skills to contribute to the team.
PBR: What summer team do you play on and how has travel baseball helped your development as a player?
Frengel: Triple Crown Royals last season and Midwest Marlins next summer. Summer travel ball has helped me to face tough competition and become a well-rounded and consistent player.
PBR: What was the most memorable experience from this summer?
Frengel: I had multiple grand slams and some clutch at bats, one of them was at Walsh in front of Coach Mead that changed the momentum of a game we were losing.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Frengel: My first travel ball coaches -Tom Matthews and Matt Wajda - with the Worthington Cardinals. They taught me a lot. I learned the mental approach to the game and developed my skills.
PBR: What were your stats for this last season?
Frengel: I batted .440 and led Worthington Kilbourne in most offensive categories. I was named All OCC and All District. I was the number 2 pitcher behind Walsh commit Hyatt Shenefield.
PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced in Ohio?
Frengel: Sam Wilson has been pretty tough. I faced him in high school and summer. Tyler Brown and Collin Hoffman were tough, too.
