Inside the Recruitment: '17 SS Andrew Bacon commits to Northern Kentucky
February 7, 2016
Andrew Bacon, SS, Home School, Class of 2017
PBR: Why did you choose Northern Kentucky?
Bacon: For me, I wanted a place with good baseball, good education, and a good Christian base. NKU provided that.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Bacon: Miami Ohio was another school I was considering.
PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you and how did your relationship develop?
Bacon: I first met Coach Peyton when I was 14, and he's seen my progression and development over the years.
PBR: How does it feel to be a part of a Division 1 baseball program?
Bacon: It feels good. It's been a dream and a goal of mine for years - it feels awesome.
PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?
Bacon: I play for the Cincinnati Fury in the summer. My whole summer really was a blast all the way around. But the best part was a big tournament in Akron where we made a deep run and almost won the whole thing.
PBR: What person has the great impact on your baseball career and why?
Bacon: My hitting coach, Don Gullett Jr. has had a huge impact on my baseball. But my dad has had the biggest - always supporting me, and teaching me how to grow as a man through baseball.
PBR: You have participated in numerous PBR events, how did you performances help you in the recruiting process?
Bacon: It taught me how to showcase in front of many coaches and just got me comfortable in that environment.
PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced?
Bacon: I got to face Cameron Varga when I was a freshman. But Connor McMurry and Jace Burke were tough at bats as well.
