Inside the Recruitment: '17 RHP Bryce Davis commits to Toledo
Bryce Davis, RHP, Sparta, 2017
PBR: Why did you choose Toledo?
Bryce: Coach Mee feels I have what it takes to be a impact player right away. What finally helped make my choice was an overnight official visit that I took in Sept. I got the chance to hang with most of the players at night and that's what did it. Both the coaches and players made me feel like I was part of the team.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Bryce: I had offers from Eastern Michigan, Ball State and also from Davenport. I love what Coach Tidey is doing at Davenport and with them making the move to D2 was enticing. I just felt DU was too close to home.
PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you?
Bryce: I'm not quite sure where they first saw me, but they have been in touch with Billy Peterson, my travel coach and I have done many PBR events that they have been at.
PBR: What team do you play for in the summer and what is your most memorable moment?
Bryce: I play with Billy Peterson's Grand Rapids Diamonds. I also had great opportunities to pitch in some Perfect Games tournaments with Ohio Elite. I would say my most memorable moment was pitching with Ohio Elite in Fort Pierce last year in the WWBA. It was a night game against Evoshield Prospects and there were a ton of scouts in the stands. I hit 90 mph for the first time.
PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process?
Bryce: I really did not know what to expect. When I first got offers my junior year, it was pretty exciting. I talked and texted a lot of coaches on a regular basis, but you start to get a feel who is truly interested in you. I'm happy that my decision is made so I can move on to my senior year at Sparta.
PBR: What were your stats last spring season?
Bryce: My record was 4-3. I gave up 22 hits and 6 earned runs in 53 innings. I had 98 strikeouts with an ERA of 0.792.
PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced?
Bryce: I have faced many good hitters, too many to name.
