PBR: Why did you choose USMMA?

Heck: I picked the United States Merchant Marine Academy because I will be able to get a degree in the field that I want to pursue, I have the opportunity to travel the world while in school, I have the opportunity to serve my country, I also believe that the USMMA will best prepare me for life after college and the challenges that come with it, and best of all, I get to play baseball.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Heck: If I was unable to get an appointment to the USMMA, my back up play was to attend UNC Charlotte or FGCU. I was also considering a number of local schools such as Ohio Wesleyan, Mount Union, Heidelberg, and Lake Erie.

PBR: With USMMA being a military academy, how will that affect your daily schedule and your focus on athletics?

Heck: Being that I will be attending a military academy, it will put a higher demand on my time management and organization. It will press my work ethic but these are the type of schools that help teach that, which will benefit me in the future. As far as athletics go, anything that has to be done through the academy will only improve my athletics

PBR: Now that you have your commitment out of the way, what are your goals both individually and for the team going into the fall at USMMA?

Heck: Individually, my goal would to be an impact player and a viable part of the team as an incoming freshman. Team wise, my goal would be to win.

PBR: What will your daily schedule look like as a USMMA athlete?

Heck: As an USMMA athlete your daily schedule is similar to a high school. Your classes are scheduled for you and they begin at 7:00am and end at 4:00pm. Any free periods are spent in the weight room completing my daily routine for baseball. The team practice is in the afternoon and afterwards is spent studying for the next day.

PBR:  What person has the great impact on your baseball career and why?

Heck: My parents, because they've taught me that no matter how hard something is, or how much someone tells you that you cannot do it, you can. They have believed in me since day one and they are the reason I am where I am at today in my baseball career.

PBR: What were your stats this spring season?

Heck: I batted .383 BA with a .620 OBA.  I had 1 3B 6 2B 23 1B with 21 RBIs and 19 runs scored, 14 BB and 9K with 77PA.  I also had 10 stolen bases.  Pitching I was 4-2 with an era of 1.84.  My last outing was against Ignatius 6-0 lost, hurt my ERA.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced in Ohio?

Heck: If I had to decide on the best pitcher I have faced in Ohio I would have to say Adrian Abrahamowicz or Chris Machamer.
