Inside the Recruitment: '17 INF Jared Kauffman commits to Eastern Michigan
October 3, 2016
Jared Kauffman, INF, Bishop Fenwick, Class of 2017
PBR: Why did you choose Eastern Michigan?
Kauffman: It was a good blend of the academics and athletics that align with my personal goals. The program is up and coming and the coaching staff has a great reputation. The university is making a great investment in the baseball program.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Kauffman: Air Force, Bradley, and Seton Hill.
PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you?
Kauffman: They saw me this summer with the Flames at a tournament in Cincinnati.
PBR: What team do you play for in the summer and what is your most memorable moment.
Kauffman: Cincy Flames. My most memorable moment is hitting a home run in the Perfect Game tournament in Lakepoint, GA.
PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process?
Kauffman: I thought the recruiting process was going to be less complicated and quicker. How schools identify talent to recruit varies more than I thought. Shout out to Top Prospect Games- I had a lot of contacts from that event.
PBR: What were your stats last spring season?
Kauffman: For high school, I batted .392, 2 HR, 1 3B, 10 2B, 21 RBI, 20 SB, .600 SLG% . I don't have my summer ball statistics.
PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced?
Kauffman: Ethan Smith. Vanderbilt commit from Mt. Juliet in Tennessee. I faced him in high school ball.
