Zach Mottice, INF, Jackson HS, Class of 2016

PBR: Why did you choose Malone?

Mottice: Coach Crank, the coaching staff and the players at Malone exemplified the type of intensity and work ethic I want to experience in my college baseball career. Also, the academics are good at Malone.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Mottice: Presbyterian College, Miami University, Walsh University, Findlay University

PBR:  Where did the coaches first see you compete and how did your relationship develop with the rest of the coaching staff?

Mottice: Coach Crank first saw me play in the regional finals last year. I went on campus and practiced with the team and got to meet and talk with the rest of the staff. They all shared a common mindset of determination and hard work; which I liked. Specifically, the pitching coach, Kyle Hallock, really impressed me when I talked to him with his will to win and excitement for the game. From the visit, I could tell this was the coaching staff I wanted to have and that the relationships would build further and stronger.

PBR: What role does the coaching staff expect you to play during your first year on campus?

Mottice: I will be expected to contribute to the team my first year on campus. I will compete for a role as the starting 2nd baseman.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Mottice: My older brother, Kyle Mottice.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most exciting experience playing summer ball?

Mottice: .310 BA, .965 fielding percentage, 11 Stolen bases

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher you have faced in Ohio?
