Austin Hatfield, C, Lakota East HS, Class of 2016
PBR: Why did you choose Carson Newman?
Hatfield: I fell in love with the campus, facilities, and Coach Griffin. Out of all my other offers, I felt like this was the best fit for me athletically and academically. I am very excited to work with Coach Griffin next year.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Hatfield: I had offers from Ashland, Bellarmine and Seton Hill as well.
PBR: How much did playing down south play a part in your decision?
Hatfield: Playing down south did play a part in my decision, however it was not a must have for me. It just added to the list of things I loved about Carson Newman.
PBR: How does it feel to have your commitment out of the way prior to your senior season?
Hatfield: I am really excited because I don’t have the stress now that comes with recruitment and I can really just relax and enjoy my senior year. Also, now I can really focus on finishing my football season instead of worrying about visiting other schools.
PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?
Hatfield: In the summer I play for the Cincy Flames. My most memorable moment was going to Atlanta and beating some extremely good teams.
PBR: What person has the greatest impact on your baseball career and why?
Hatfield: My dad has pushed me hard since I was young and without that I do not think I would be where I am today.
PBR: What were your stats this summer season?
Hatfield: Over the summer I hit over .300 and had a 56% Quality at Bats average
