Inside the Recruitment: '15 OF Trenton Wood commits to Mount Vernon Nazerene
November 8, 2014
Trenton Wood, OF, Troy HS, Class of 2015
PBR: Why did you choose Mount Vernon Nazarene?
Wood: I chose Mount Vernon Nazarene because they have a competitive baseball program, I felt that I connected with the coaches and the players, and I feel that it's a place that I can spend the next 4 years.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Wood: I was considering Bowling Green, Brescia, Findlay, Sinclair and Eastern Mich.
PBR: Where did Coach Veale first see you? How did your relationship develop with the coaching staff?
Wood: Coach Veale first saw me at a prospect camp at Mount Vernon. The coaching staff was very nice when I went MVNU and when we conversed over the phone.
PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
Wood: They are losing quite a few outfielders this year so I am sure they want me to fill their shoes.
PBR: What summer team do you play on and how has travel baseball helped your development as a player?
Wood: I play for Troy Post 43 American Legion under Frosty Brown. Playing teams from all over the state has showed me what I needed to do to get better as a baseball player.
PBR: MVNU is very close to home. How much of a role did distance play in your decision?
Wood: My older sister went to a school that was over 4 hours away and was not very convenient. I wanted to go to a school that was a little closer to home.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Wood: I have played for Frosty Brown since 6th grade. Frosty has been the biggest influence on my baseball career.
PBR: What were your stats for this spring?
Wood: .329 AVG 14 RBI 25 Hits .424 OBP
PBR: Who is the best pitcher that you have ever faced?
Wood: I've faced many pitchers that have gone to division I, such as Hutchinson from Mason, but the pitcher that has always kept me on my toes was Austin Baumgardner from Greenville.
