Inside the Recruitment: '15 OF Miles Gordon commits to San Francisco

Miles GordonPBR: Why did you choose University of San Francisco?

Miles: I chose the USF because when I went on my official visit, the city itself was mesmerizing; and I could really see myself there for the next four years. The entire coaching staff was so welcoming and when they went through their program, I felt that it was a perfect fit for me. Not to mention, I always wanted to play baseball in a warm climate so that I could improve my outdoor game.

PBR: What other schools were you considering? 

Miles: I had received an offer from Southern as well which was nice and we had talked to Southern Illinois, Michigan State and Georgia State University.

PBR: Where did Coach Giarratano first see you? How did your relationship develop with him? 

Miles: One of my coaches from the Great Lake Canadians, Chris Robinson, sent USF my recruiting video and everything just kinda went from there. The recruiting coach, Troy Nakamura contacted me and started talking and then before I know it, I am on a plane on my way to San Fran.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?

Miles: Firstly, my parents of course have sacrificed a lot to get me to where I am today. My sister is also my biggest cheerleader. I can't forget to acknowledge my previous coaches for their contribution but I wouldn't be in the position I am in today without thanking Chris Robinson for sending USF my video and Adam Stern for helping me to dig deeper.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?

Miles: I am not going to lie, the recruiting process became very stressful at one point because I was traveling so much and couldn't keep up with all of my emails. Once I narrowed down my wish list, San Fran got pushed to the top of the list. 

Miles GordonPBR: What team do you play for in the summer and what is your most memorable experience?

Miles: I play for the Great Lake Canadians, with Chris and Adam. I have had some awesome experiences over the past three months but I think my most memorable experience is when Greg Hamilton called me and invited me to join the National Team in Florida, I couldn't wipe the smile off of my face.

PBR: Now that you have your commitment out of the way, what are your goals both individually and for the team for the rest of your senior season?

Miles: Individually I want to get stronger physically and continue to work on my hitting which will ultimately improve my overall game. I hope to keep playing and contribute to the success of the JNT as well as be leader for Great Lake Canadians. 

PBR: What do you feel are the strengths about your game?

Miles: My speed is certainly a good asset to have, but people tell me "you can never be fast enough." I think being a left-handed hitter is also a good asset. 

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced in Ontario?

Miles: Being a left-handed hitter, a left-handed pitcher is usually tougher, but I think I have to say RHP Zach Pop from the OBJ's.
