October 29, 2020
TEXAS - Last week we released the Class of 2023 Texas State Rankings, today we dive deeper into those rankings by taking a look at a few newcomers in the class. Several of these players jumped onto our radar this summer and quickly established themselves as top prospects in the state.
NEWCOMERS
Lane Allen SS / RHP / Denton Guyer, TX / 2023Burst on to scene early in the summer at NTX event, Showed why he was a name we needed to know right away. Allen took one of the more impressive rounds of BP in the summer. Drove balls to all fields with ease. Will be a fun one to follow as he continues development |
Hayden Morris RHP / 1B / Oak Ridge, TX / 20236-foot-7 frame, long levers, clean arm path out of the glove, FB had tilt when down up to 87 on the day seen, showed a workable breaking ball off the FB. Repeatable athletic delivery. |
Logan Simmons RHP / 3B / Silsbee, TX / 2023Future Game participant, jumped on the Scene early in the summer at STX event. Repeatable delivery with feel for the CH right now. Breaking ball is still coming along but shows some shape to it. Natural deception form his high front side, overall a repeatable delivery with more to come velocity wise. |
Jaquae Stewart 1B / Sinton, TX / 2023Left handed power bat that started to show real power to all fields. Duals as a pitcher right now as well, but the bat kept getting better and better all summer. One to keep an eye on down the road. |
Benjamin Merriman OF / 2B / James Bowie, TX / 2023Ben member of Team Texas at this years PBR Future Games. A right-handed hitter that seems to find the barrel consistently every time the staff gets to see him play. |
JC Davis 2B / SS / Argyle, TX / 2023Rankings StateRank: 70 / POS: 2
Davis was nice player that came up late in the Summer. A really fun player to watch, the defense comes easy to Davis. Hands and feet really work well together, and will only get better with added strength. Plays with a high IQ. Fun ball player type to follow along.
