As 2017 sets in, spring, and more importantly baseball season, is right around the corner. This week, PBR Texas, zeroes in on some uncommitted sophomores who are ready to make their mark on 2017, and will be valued greatly by college recruiters. Today, we look at seven uncommitted pitchers from our 2019 Ranking.

Updated Rankings will be released at the beginning of February, after our I-10 Border Battle and The North Texas Prospect Games.

+ Calvin Marks, LHP, Central Catholic HS, Ranked #36
6-foot-3, 195-pounds. Projectable bodied left-hander with good arm strength, and a fastball that sits 82-85 and touches 86. Shows some feel for a changeup with four-seam spin at 69 that has a chance to be a good pitch. Stands tall on the mound with a fragmented delivery which affects his ability to repeat an arm slot.

+ Hambleton Oliver, RHP/1B, Calallen HS, Ranked #39
6-foot-2, 190-pound, strong frame. Powerful two-way player that will be fun to watch this spring.

+ Evan Godwin, LHP/1B, Cy-Fair HS, Ranked #40
6-foot, 165-pound strong frame. Projectable frame with broad shoulders and long arms. Fastball sits 81-82 mph with some two-seam, arm-side run. The changeup was his best offspeed pitch at 74 mph with good arm-side fade and depth. Throws a larger shape curveball that has good depth at 69-72 mph. The left-handed hitter was on the barrel during games with a big double off the wall to right-center field. He has a tall open stance with relaxed rhythm and very natural left handed swing with pop. His defensive actions at first base are advanced for his age showing solid footwork around the bag, plays low on ground balls and has a good quick exchange with clean arm stroke registering 82 mph. He registered a top velocity of 86 mph from the outfield workout. Ran a 7.52 60-yard dash.

+ Connor Phillips, RHP, Magnolia West HS, Ranked #44
6-foot-1, 170-pound lean frame. Works from a high-¾ slot with long, clean arm action. His fastball ranged from 84-86 mph in the first four innings. Fastball has some arm-side run and sink. He showed good command moving the fastball around the zone and locating on both sides of the plate. Did a good job controlling the running game posting 1.1-1.2 home-to-the-plate times out of the stretch. In the fifth inning he was still sitting 83 mph with his fastball. Threw one slider at 77 mph.

+ Reed Smith, RHP, Cy-Fair HS, Ranked #45
5-foot-9, 155-pound frame. Works mostly from high-¾ slot but will occasionally drop down to a side-arm slot. From the high-¾ slot his fastball ranges from 82-85 mph, topping out at 86 mph with some arm side run and sink. His breaking ball ranges from 71-73 mph with good 11-5 shape. From the side-arm slot the fastball velocity stays in the 82-83 mph range, while the slider turns to a slurve with lateral break away from right-handed hitters at 68-69 mph. Good all around feel for pitching, throws strikes, commands two pitches and holds runners. Smith topped out at 87 mph during the outfield portion of the workout and posted 88 mph on his exit velo.

+ Blake Mayfield, RHP, Marcus HS, Ranked #46
6-foot, 145-pound projectable frame. Works from a high-¾ slot with long clean arm action. Showed advanced feel for both fastball and slider in his first bullpen session of the fall. Only put the gun up for one fastball at 82 mph.

+ Sean Bolin, RHP, Argyle HS, Ranked #50
6-foot-6, 175-pound wiry, projectable frame. Worked from a ¾ slot with long arm action and up-tempo delivery. He seemed to be on the side of the ball with his fastball having some lateral cutter-type action at 82-84 mph. His curveball was 66-68 mph with 10-4 spin
