Illinois Insider: Top Unsigned Right-Handed Pitchers

With the initial signing period over, and in advance of our final Unsigned Senior Showcase in January we will feature some of the top uncommitted players in the state. Today we start with the top three uncommitted right-handed pitchers in the state. This trio of arms all offer something different that catch your eye. All three should garner plenty of attention before their high school careers are complete. Let’s take a look at the top uncommitted right-handed arms in Illinois.

High School: Lincoln-Way Central
Rank: 116
Height: 6-4
Weight: 170
Stats: FB 82-84 T85, CB 71-73, CH 77-78,
Outlook: Newton has a prototypical pitchers build at 6-foot-4, 170-pounds. He was the No. 2 ranked arm at the Unsigned Senior Games this past October where he topped out at 85 mph with his fastball. A lot to like with his clean, loose arm, pitchability and projectable frame.

Scouting Report: 10.11.15 - 6-foot-4, 170-pound right-handed pitcher, long slender frame, projectable build. Easy delivery, simple and repeatable. Clean loose arm action, high ¾ slot. Fastball had life to it, arm side action, 82-84 mph, touched 85. Curveball has 11/5 shape, flashed sharp action, control of the zone, 71-73 mph, showed feel. Changeup is firm and thrown with confidence, advanced action, plays up with good feel and arm speed, 77-78 mph.
