Taking into consideration the late fall, winter season and national events such as the Super 60 scouted over the last couple of months, we have updated the Illinois 2017 rankings once again. This crop of seniors features plenty of high-end arms with impressive overall depth.
Over the course of the last four months, the depth of the class has continued to strengthen. Since our last update of the rankings, the final Unsigned Senior Event for 2017 graduates took place and brought a handful of new faces and names to the table.
Looking at the Top 10, RHP Austin Marozas (Plainfield South HS), a Kentucky commit, stays at the top of the list in Illinois. The 6-foot-7, 240-pound right-hander continues to see his velocity climb. Marozas sat an easy 91-92 mph and touched 93 mph at the Super 60.
LHP Reid Detmers (Chatham-Glenwood HS), a Louisville recruit, climbed to No. 2 spot and is making a strong case as the top player in the state. Detmers is extremely consistent and has impressed multiple times since the fall. At the Super 60, the 6-foot-2, 200-pound southpaw, sat 89-90 mph, peppered the strike zone with all three pitches and his curveball showed swing-and-miss action. At his first start this spring, he dealt with less than ideal temperatures and his fastball sat 89-91 mph early on, settling in at 87-89 mph. Detmers finished with 11 strikeouts in four innings of work.
Reid Detmers (3.16.17)
Another riser in the Top 10 was RHP Glenn Albanese (Batavia HS). Albanese, another Louisville commit, now sits at No. 3, thanks to one of the better performances by an Illinois arm at the Super 60. The athletically built 6-foot-6, 225-pound right-hander showed vastly improved secondary offerings and sat 90-91 mph, touching 92.

Looking outside of the Top 10, LHP Antonio Saldana (Joliet Catholic Academy) jumped into the top 30. Saldana has an extra large 6-foot-7, 230-pound frame and showed well in his first outing of the spring this past weekend. The Iowa Western JC commit, sat 88-90 mph in the first and had good feel for a slider throughout. Saldana was able to consistently back foot right-handed hitters with the slider and he finished with seven strikeouts in five innings of work.
Another LHP who made a big jump in the rankings was Max Rimac (Notre Dame HS). Rimac, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound Cisco JC commit, ran his fastball to 90 mph and settled in at 85-88 mph in a recent start. Rimac also featured a 1/7 curveball that he threw aggressively at 75-78 mph.
When it comes to position players, no one rose more than LHH OF Dylan Burris (Edwardsville HS). We were able to get our eyes on the Wabash Valley JC commit multiple times so far this spring. Burris is a premium leadoff type hitter who sets the table for the Edwardsville offense. Burris consistently makes hard contact at the plate and is a nuisance on the base paths. He is highly aggressive, will put pressure on the defense and has the speed to do so (was 4.26 on a double to left-center field).
Some notable newcomers to the rankings were C Steven Pattan (Alton HS) a SIU-Edwardsville commit, OF Marty Dosen (Benet HS) a Parkland JC commit, RHP Collin Baumgartner (Southwestern Piasa) a SIU-Edwardsville recruit, 1B Adam Hillis (Jacksonville HS) uncommitted, C/3B Evan Lawrence (Belleville East) a McKendree recruit and RHP Walker Brockhouse (Mt. Vernon HS) uncommitted.
