IE Future Games Trials: Outfielders Analysis

Steve Doherty
SoCal Area Scout

NORCO, CA. - With the spring season finishing and players preparing for the Summer, we got a chance to get a good look at a group of impressive 2021-2022 players. We saw some of these players during our coverage during the high school season and previous events, but there was a group of players giving us very good first looks.

Earlier we released our Quick Hits providing some early impressions of the players at the event. Then we looked at the top statistical performers in our statistical analysis. We also broke down corner infielders here while the catchers  analysis from Inland Empire Future Games Trials is in this piece

Today we take a look at the Outfielders from the event.

Scouting Report

IE Future Games Trials - Uncommitted. 5-foot-8, 145-pounds, small, strong, athletic frame. This is our third viewing of Nicoletti, and he continues to make improvements in his overall game and strength. Started the day clocking a fast sixty time. In his BP round he showed the ability to square up the baseball consistently with a pull approach for ¾ of the round. On his last few swings, he choked up and put the ball in play three times with authority the other way. In the outfield, Nicoletti demonstrates a clean strong, accurate arm with good range, and get rid of the ball quickly.  He profiles as a top of the lineup player.

Scouting Report

IE Future Games Trials - Uncommitted. 5-foot-10, 160-pounds, lean, wiry strong frame with some length in the limbs. There is room for filling out with the frame. Didn’t run the sixty because he was coming off a tweak in the leg. Showed a consistent stroke at the plate where he looks to elevate the ball while driving them to center-left field. Registered a 4.79 home-to-first time. Shows a live, accurate arm from the outfield where his footwork was proper while taking good routes to the ball. Profiles as a corner outfielder given his footwork and arm strength.

Scouting Report

IE Future Games Trials - Uncommitted. Started off the day clocking a 7.44 sixty.  Cabada showed he can do it all and took part in all facets of the showcase.  Body is developing nicely in our third viewing, is an inch taller and starting to lengthen out. Has significant room to add muscle and twitchiness. Displays a natural left handed swing that is geared for contact. Power is developing.  Went to outfield and showed average, accurate arm, and took good routes. Finished the day on the mound where he stood out. Not blowing the radar gun up, however he is a high percentage strike thrower demonstrating his ability to locate all of three his offerings. Curveball is almost a 12-6 with some loopiness but Cabada is able to it to a spot showing strike throwing ability with it. The changeup could be a plus pitch down the road for Cabada. The pitch shows great arm side run with depth. High follow list type player.

Scouting Report

IE Future Games Trials - Uncommitted. The rising junior outfielder looks to be in better physical shape 5-foot-11, 180-pounds than the last time we saw him. Jackson posted a 7.18 laser-timed 60 yard dash that could’ve been a tick faster had there not been a slight slip at take off. Castillo showed off his developing hit tool with a loud round of BP that featured two balls that one hopped the fence in the RCF gap. There’s easy power from a balanced setup and follow through. Incorporated the lower half well, clearing the hips with some speed and allowing him to get the barrel into the zone on plane. Defensively he showed smooth footwork and athletic body actions. Arm is strong and accurate registering an 85 mph OF velocity. Plays with excellent body control.

Scouting Report

IE Future Games Trials - Uncommitted. 5-foot-7, 145lbs small/medium, athletic frame.  Has significant room to add muscle and strength. Participated in multiple aspects of this showcase. This is our first viewing of Albano. Started the day clocking a 7.96 sixty. Showed the ability to square up the baseball in his BP round and use the whole field. Starts with low hands away from body, high leg kick trigger, and slightly closed stance. Has gap power currently; with added strength he will be able to get to the inside pitch and drive it more consistently. In the outfield he demonstrated a clean, average, accurate arm, with the ability to get rid of it quickly and put in on the bag. With his speed Albano profiles at a corner outfield position.

Scouting Report

IE Future Games Trials - Uncommitted. Billings is a still developing 6-foot-1, 165-pounds R/R outfielder that oozes projection. Started off running a 7.24 laser-timed 60 yard dash before opening eyes during the hitting wheel where he registered an 87 mph exit velocity off the tee. He took that to the on-field hitting portion where he showed his present power. There are inconsistencies in his swing with regards to the hand path and use of lower half, but when he makes the timing work, he shows consistency with the barrel. Defensively he shows athleticism and a short, fast, strong arm that registered an 86 mph outfield velocity. Throws show carry. Did not pitch at the event.

Scouting Report

IE Future Games Trials - Uncommitted. 5-foot-11, 140lbs, skinny, wiry strong frame. There is significant room for added weight and muscle here. Has big feet, and hands telling there is still some physical growing remaining and stretching out to do.  Started off the day clocking a 7.46 sixty time. Showed a solid BP round using an all fields approach, and consistently squaring the ball up. Demonstrate a relaxed, rhythmic set up, slightly open stance and mild leg kick trigger. Currently a line drive hitter that will develop a power game as he matures.  Exhibited a strong, accurate arm with some carry in the outfield. Profiles as a corner outfielder.

Scouting Report

IE Future Games Trials - Uncommitted. 5-foot-9, 170lbs, strong, muscle build that will have to increase flexibility, and twitchiness.  This is our second viewing of Sullivan. Started the day clocking a 7.25 sixty. He was using a pull approach in his BP round. Starts with a wide, open stance. Has mild hitch in hands on load,  with leg kick trigger. Currently has gap power that should develop as he matures and adds strength. In his outfield session he shows an average, accurate arm from an over the top throwing motion. Sullivan took good routes, and demonstrated the ability to get rid of the ball quickly. Profiles as a corner outfielder.

Scouting Report

(Outfield) Uncommitted. 6-foot-2, 185-pounds, Big, strong frame that is beginning to fill out currently. Adding muscle and twitchiness to his frame will enhance his all-around game. Participated in multiple aspects of this showcase. Started the day running a 8.02 sixty. Really liked the natural left hand stroke with some loft . Starts with a balanced set up, low, relaxed hands. Has good bat speed. Gap power currently, but will turn into HR power as he matures. Showed well at the catching position with accurate throws to bag, moved well laterally for his frame and looked comfortable in his setup.  In the outfield he showed the ability to make strong accurate throws to all bases. Has clean arm action and has some carry. Could see ability to play first base as well. Good looking recruit.
