IA Fall Review- Catcher Evaluations

The PBR IA Fall Review event took place on Sunday, October 29, 2017. The event was held at Sports Iowa in Ames, IA. The event featured prospects from the 2018-2021 classes who showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff and college coaches in attendance.

Today we highlight the catchers who performed at the end of the fall event.
The top catcher at this year's IA Fall Review event was 2019 Garrett Ries from Cedar Rapids Xavier. Ries is currently the #10 ranked player in the IA 2019 class. One of the top uncommitted prospects in the state; Ries shows high level potential with a well above average left-handed swing and has quick twitch actions and athleticism.

Ty Arguello, C, Newton, 2019
5-foot-8, 125-pound left-handed hitting catcher. 7.78 runner. Square crouched stance, rhythm in hands triggers swing, mid/pull approach, solid/avg. contact, 69 mph exit velocity. Low setup, agile around plate, avg. receiver, should improve with additional strength, some length to exchange, long arm action, 68 mph arm strength with 2.34-2.51 pop times.
Tolik Bartz, C, Winterset, 2019
6-foot, 155-pound right-handed hitting catcher. 7.6 runner. Tall narrow stance, leg kick trigger, strides to square, shows loose hands in swing, gap to gap approach, with flashes of pop in bat to both sides of field, 80 mph exit velocity. Has athleticism behind plate, raw mechanics, receives with thumb underneath, avg. blocker, long exchange and release on throws, 70 mph arm strength with 2.27-2.35 pop times.
Brandon Chapman, C, Des Moines Lincoln, 2020
6-foot, 170-pound right-handed hitting catcher. 8.14 runner. Slight body and hand load, front heel turn trigger, short to contact, line drive swing plane, pull approach with fly ball contact, 84 mph exit velocity. Square stance, sticks pitches in zone, shows strength in hands, has momentum and direction through plate, clean exchanges, online throws, occasionally short to bag, 72 mph arm strength with 2.19-2.28 pop times.
Quincy Collier, C/RHP, Davis County, 2018
5-foot-9, 145-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.21 runner. Balanced setup, longer stride, compact swing, short to contact, consistent line drive and fly ball contact, mid/pull approach, 75 mph exit velocity. Quiet and relaxed behind plate, soft hands, avg. direction with feet, short exchange with quick release, accurate to bag, 75 mph arm strength with 2.19-2.26 pop times.

6-foot-2, 160-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.76 runner. Slightly crouched athletic setup, active hand rhythm disrupts timing occasionally, long levers with extension through contact, mid/away approach, spray contact, 81 mph exit velocity. Square stance with balance, rushes load occasionally, solid gap to gap approach, produces hard line drive and fly ball contact, 92 mph exit velocity. Solid wide-framed target, shows strength in hands, receives baseball well, relaxed and confident behind plate, narrow stance, has direction on throws, slight hitch in arm action but is accurate to bag with online throws, 77 mph arm strength with 2.07-2.16 pop times.
