The I-10 Border Battle took place on Monday January 16th, at Lamar University in Beaumont, TX. The open event saw players from all across the state of Louisiana and Texas in attendance.

Catchers
+ Austyn Benoit, C, Welsh, 2019
A 6-foot, 160-pound catcher with a lean, athletic frame. Solid defender with average hands, quick footwork, and clean exchanges. Long arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy on throws that produced a positional velocity of 68 mph and a pop time of 2.04. Right-handed hitter that hits from balanced setup, smooth load, short stride, and solid balance. Line-drive type hitter with stiff rhythm, length in path, and bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 80 mph. Also posted a 7.42 60-yard dash.

A 6-foot, 200-pound catcher with a strong, athletic frame. Quality defender with average hands, fluid footwork, clean exchanges, and plays through balls athletically. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy on throws that produced a positional velocity of 71 mph and a pop time of 2.05. Right-handed hitter that hits from balanced, athletic setup, smooth load, short stride, solid lower half, and balance. Gap to gap type hitter with fluid rhythm, level path, strength at contact and bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 81 mph.

Currently ranked No. 42 in Louisiana’s 2018 class. Large 6-foot-6, 220-pound frame, strong lower half, long limbs. Long arm action into high-3/4 release with quick arm speed and regular effort. Smooth rhythm, level shoulders, in-line direction and lands square. Fastball sat 79-81 mph with late run and solid tilt. Breaking ball showed 2/8 shape with gradual break and fastball arm speed at 63-66 mph. Also showed a changeup with near fastball arm speed and arm side run at 72-73 mph.

A 5-foot-11, 163-pound right handed pitcher with a medium, athletic frame. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with average arm speed and regular effort. Some rhythm, level shoulders, in-line direction and lands square. Fastball sat 75-78 mph with slight arm side run and control. Breaking ball showed 11/5 shape with sharp break and fastball arm speed at 65-66 mph. Also showed a changeup with near fastball arm speed and fade action at 67-68 mph.

Currently ranked No. 5 in Louisiana’s 2017 class. Athletic 6-foot, 180-pound frame, present strength, some room left to project out. One of the top arms in Louisiana’s 2017 class, last year’s class 5A MVP, and an outstanding student with 4.0 GPA, 34 ACT. Right-handed pitcher with long, loose arm action into mid-3/4 release with quick arm speed and easy effort. Smooth rhythm, level shoulders, in-line direction, lands square and finishes athletic. Fastball sat 89-91 mph with natural arm side run and command. Breaking ball showed 10/4 shape with fastball arm speed, tight spin and sharp break at 76-78 mph. Also showed changeup with fastball arm speed and fade action at 76-77 mph.
+ Jacob Lamkin, RHP, St. Thomas More, 2018
A 5-foot-9, 175-pound right-handed pitcher with a medium, athletic frame. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with quick arm speed and regular effort. Smooth rhythm, level shoulders, in-line direction, lands square and finishes athletic. Fastball sat 81-84 mph, touching 85 mph, with slight arm side run and command. Breaking ball showed 11/5 shape with gradual break and near fastball arm speed at 66-68 mph. Also showed a straight changeup with fastball arm speed at 75-76 mph.

A 5-foot-9, 140-pound right-handed pitcher with an average athletic frame. Appears to be one of the top 2020 prospects in Louisiana. Long, loose arm action into high-3/4 release, quick arm speed and easy effort. Smooth rhythm, level shoulders, in-line direction and lands square. Fastball sat 79-80 mph with arm side run and control. Breaking ball showed 11/5 shape, sharp break and near fastball arm speed at 64-67 mph. Also showed a changeup with fastball arm speed and fade action at 69-70 mph.

A 5-foot-11, 160-pound left-handed pitcher with a medium, athletic build. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with average arm speed, and regular effort. Some rhythm, level shoulders, in-line direction, and lands square. Fastball sat 77-78 mph with slight arm side run and command. Breaking ball showed 2/8 shape with gradual break and near fastball arm speed at 63-65 mph. Also showed a changeup with near fastball arm speed and sinking action at 62-64 mph.
