Hurricane 6, Cabell Midland 2

Entering Tuesday's MSAC title game Hurricane 2020 right-handed pitcher Tyler Cox had thrown a grand total of one inning of varsity baseball.  The freshman looked like a seasoned veteran needing just 92 pitches to spin a complete game five-hitter for the win.  Cox did not walk a batter and allowed just one earned run for his first varsity win.

After Cabell Midland tied the game 1-1 in the top of the 3rd inning the Redskins answered with five runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning effectively putting the game away.  Three walks, a Cabell Midland error and doubles by Bo Adkins and Nate Dunham keyed the rally.

Noah Birthisel (2-4), Adkins (2-3, 2B, R, RBI) and Noah Short (2-2, R, RBI) led the Hurricane offense.  Easton Petitt (2-3, RBI) was the lone Cabell Midland hitter to register more than one hit.

No. 1 Hurricane (23-5) and No. 3 Cabell Midland (16-5) have now split two games during regular season play.  Sectional play begins around the state next week with the Knights and Redskins both participating in Section 2 of Class AAA - Region 4.
