Holly Springs and Cardinal Gibbons Come Up Big

In Prep Baseball Reports continued quest to be the No. 1 source for High School baseball across North Carolina, our staff is working tirelessly to cover as many games and players as possible each week. As our viewship and subscribers continue to grow we will continue to allocate more resources to scouts covering each region. Associate Scout, Ed Hall had the chance to see and write-up two games in the Triangle Area from this past week.
Cardinal Gibbons vs South Johnston – Thursday March 9th
Cardinal Gibbons’ impressive offensive onslaught led to a 20 to 0 win over South Johnston Thursday in a 5 inning game due to the 10 run rule after 5 innings. Cardinal Gibbons accumulated 17 hits, 8 walks, and 2 hit batters against 4 South Johnston pitchers. Cardinal Gibbons’ Noah Campbell (2017 – South Carolina commit) was 2 for 3 at the plate including a grand slam. Gibbons’ Chris Thorburn (2018 – UNC Wilmington commit) also homered. Third baseman JP Roque (2017), and designated hitter Gage Trenum (2017) collected 3 hits in 4 plate appearances.
Gibbons’ LHP Evan Wilson (2018) used a mix of fastball – breaking ball to limit South Johnston to 5 hits while walking 3 and striking out 3 over 4 innings. RHP Ben Marshall (2018) pitched the 5th inning to complete the shut out.
South Johnston collected 6 hits over 5 innings. Noah Bridges (2017 – UNCW commit), Dalton Benson (2018), Sauyer Roberts (2017) and Trevor Allen (2017) had 1 hit each. Second baseman Zachary Mclamb (2017) led all South Johnston hitters with 2 hits.
Holly Springs vs Leesville – Wednesday March 8th
Holly Springs edged Leesville 6 to 4 Wednesday afternoon. Holly Springs starting RHP Brendan Wright (2019) went 3 innings, gave up 4 hits, walked 1, hit 1 batter and struck out 2. He gave up 4 runs. He was relieved by RHP Cameron Ellington (2017) who shut down Leesville’s offense, working 4 innings and without issuing a hit or a walk, while striking out 6.
Holly Springs’ offense was led by first baseman Ethan Miles (2017) 2 for 3 (single and double), catcher Tyler Babin (2018 – Campbell commit) 2 for 4 (2 singles), and designated hitter Camden Munise (2018 – Coker commit) 2 for 3 (single and home run).
Leesville’s starting RHP Tyler Bowen (2018) pitched 4 innings, gave up 4 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3. He was relieved by RHP Shawn Sergeant (2017) who pitched 3 innings, gave up 1 hit, walked 1, and hit 2 batters while striking out 1. Leesville had 4 hits in the game led by shortstop Ronald Evans (2019) 2 RBI triple.
