SEMINOLE—In the opening round of regionals for the 6A state tournament, Hillsborough was able to defeat Osceola 4-1. The Terriers received an outstanding pitching performance from 2015 RHP Jared Jensen who threw a complete game and gave up one run on three hits and struck out six. Offensively, Hillsborough was led by 2016 OF Sam Burnett who went 2-2 with an RBI.
Hillsborough was able to get on the board early when Burnett hit an RBI single to right field. After a scoreless bottom of the second, the Terriers were able to add another run in the third off an RBI single by 2017 3B Nick Romano.
The game remained 2-0 until the seventh when Hillsborough bunted three times and scored two runs on squeeze plays. In the bottom half, the Warriors were able to score one run but there was never any real threat of a comeback and Hillsborough went on to seal the victory. Hillsborough now advances to the regional semifinals of the 6A bracket.
