X-FACTOR
Mason Vicknair, has been a staple for the Rebels since his freshmen season. A legitimate two-way prospect, Vicknair showed flashes of right-handed raw power over the summer, which garnered some attention. He also displayed a mid-80s fastball out of a mid-3/4 slot with late sinking action.
OUTLOOK
Coach Frank Cazeaux has set the standards extremely high at Riverside, with consistent deep playoff runs since taking over the program. Last year, the Rebels pulled off, perhaps, one of the biggest upsets of the year. As they traveled to north Louisiana to take on the two-time defending state champions, Ouachita Christian. Riverside swept the best of three series holding OCS’s potent offense in check, led by, current LSU freshmen Jake Slaughter and Texas freshmen Ryan Reynolds, both of whom could make immediate impacts at their respective schools.
BOTTOM LINE
The Rebels will not be sneaking up on anyone this year. After a semi-final run last season, the Rebels looked primed for another outstanding season, as they return seven starters and three pitchers.
