X-FACTOR
One of the most storied high school programs in the state of Louisiana, Jesuit, will sport three veteran, experienced position players in 2017. Tulane recruit, OF Stephen Sepcich, a physical right-handed hitter, will provide thump in the middle of the Blue Jay lineup. Athletic, SS Nick Ray, has had an illustrious career for the Blue Jays already. Ray will provide a combination of athleticism and power in the middle of the order, as well as anchoring the middle of the defense at shortstop. Infielder Marc Theberge, made a jump during the summer and fall months, resulting in his commitment to new Tulane head coach Travis Jewett. Theberge has shown a fluid left-handed swing with rhythm and tempo, as well as, actions and fluid footwork defensively. Another to keep an eye is 2017 OF Bryce Musso. New to the lineup this summer, Musso is a quality athlete that runs a sub 6.7 60-yard dash and flashes quality defensive ability in centerfield.

OUTLOOK
Coach Joey Latino’s calling card has always been his ability to develop arms. Although the Blue Jays will have to replace the vast majority of innings from the 2016 season, they have talented arms ready to take the mantle. 2017 RHP Collin Kullivan is a lean, projectable 6-foot-2 right-hander with quick arm speed and a mid-80’s fastball. 2017 RHP Todd Crabtree spent most of last season in the closing role for the Blue Jays. 6-foot-6 left-hander, Lee Blosser, also looks for an expanded role in 2017. He has battled some minor injuries early in his career, but has flashed promise in limited action.

BOTTOM LINE
The Blue Jays, and head coach Joey Latino, have become synomous with defense, and ability to throw strikes. Expect no deviation from the game plan in 2017, but this year could see the Blue Jays offensive production improve, which would put them in the thick of the hunt for yet another state title. The Catholic League is always a grind, as bitter rivals duke it out for the crown every year. This year’s battle should be no different, and the Blue Jays look primed to get back on top of district 9-5A.
