X-FACTOR
Louisiana-Lafayette recruits, Logan Savoy and Jansen Fontenot, return in 2017 giving the Knights two premium college prospects to lead them this upcoming spring. Savoy was the Louisiana Gatorade Player Of The Year in 2016, striking out 115 batters and pitching at a 1.71 ERA. A long, loose arm action with quick arm speed into ¾ release, Savoy sits in the mid-80s with his fastball, touching 89 mph, and spins a quality breaking ball with shape and depth. Fontenot is a physical, athletic centerfielder with range and tracking instincts, and will provide power in the middle of the 2017 Knight lineup.

OUTLOOK
2016 saw great success for South Beauregard, as they reached the state championship, coming up just short of the state title. The 2017 version of the Knights look to improve on last year’s record of 28 and 8, and with the return of seven starters and four pitchers, that certainly looks like the case in 2017. In addition to Savoy and Fontenot, the Knights also return All-State players, Hyaden Gunter and Chance Clark, who was also the District 4-3 MVP.

BOTTOM LINE
Coach Jeremy Deville has built a winning culture at South Beauregard, as the Knights have been consistent winners the last few years. The 2016 season is evidence of the winning culture, as the Knights had to replace the ace of the staff and the No. 1 ranked player in Louisiana’s 2015 class, Nick Lee. A surprise to many, South Beauregard did not miss a beat in 2016, which is a tough feat for any high school program to accomplish after the graduation of a player of Lee’s caliber. Nonetheless, expectations are high for the Knights in 2017, as they should be in the hunt once again for a district and state title.
