X-FACTOR
Louisiana State recruit, Landon Marceaux, returns for the Wildcats in 2017, giving them a premium ace at the top of the rotation. Marceaux embodies advanced pitchability, sitting primarily 88-90 mph with his fastball, with reports of him touching 93 mph early this spring. He commands the fastball to both sides of the plate, in any count. Marceaux also adds a devastating array of secondary pitches that include a curveball, slider, and a changeup. Every offering is a solid average pitch, and he has shown the ability to command each pitch consistently. In the first round of playoffs last season, Marceaux’s stuff was on display, as he shut out a very talented Denham Springs club, in a 9-inning stint. Although Marceaux isn’t the biggest prospect as far as stature, (he stands at 6-foot, 180-pounds) he has a starter’s delivery with a clean arm action and easy effort.  

OUTLOOK
The Destrehan program has consistently been one of the better programs in south Louisiana for quite some time now. The 2017 season appears to be yet another promising campaign for the Wildcats. Nicholls State recruit, Dane Simon, will lead the offense, as well as securing the middle of the defense, patrolling centerfield. In addition to Marceaux, the Wildcats will send out another talented 2018 RHP in Bryce Scioneaux. Scioneaux is a physical 6-foot-2, and runs his fastball up to 88 mph with heavy, late cutting action, and adds a quality breaking ball with spin and depth.

BOTTOM LINE
Coach Chris Mire and the Destrehan program has consistently pumped out winning teams over the last few years, consistently being in the hunt to take home a district 7-5A title. The Wildcats certainly look primed for yet another successful season in 2017, and the annual showdown with area rival, Hahnville, should once again be one of the most entertaining matchups in the state of Louisiana.
