X-FACTOR
2018 UTL Chance Stone, should play a big part for the Tors in 2017, providing a quality left-handed bat in the middle of the order, in addition to being a weapon on the mound for head coach Jesses Cassard. LSU- Eunice recruit, Andrew Sheridan, is also back in 2017. An experienced veteran, expect Sheridan to wear many hats in 2017, providing both offense production, as well as, adding to a deep pitching staff.
OUTLOOK
The Southwestern part of Louisiana has been extremely strong in recent history, and it appears the script will stay the same in 2017. The 2017 Sulphur club is deep with talented and experienced players. Prospects like Louisiana-Lafayette recruit, Connor Cooke, 2018 SS Scott Jones, Chance Stone, and Andrew Sheridan should give the Tors one of the most daunted lineups in class 5A.
BOTTOM LINE
Coach Jesse Cassard will be entering his first season at Sulphur, making the move from Zachary after the 2016 season. While at Zachary, Cassard built a perennial winner. Winning state championships, and developing eventual college players consistently. Expect the 2017 Sulphur club to resemble the clubs that Cassard built while at Zachary, historically hard-nosed, playing fast, and putting pressure on opponents. Although the Tors are talented and experienced, district 3-5A is an absolute gauntlet. Heavyweight type brawls await with Barbe, Lafayette, Sam Houston, Acadiana, New Iberia, and Comeaux.
