High School Freshman Making Their Name This Winter
Myles Naylor SS / RHP / St. Joan of Arc, ON / 2023Report: In mid-February, we got our first look at Myles Naylor, the younger brother of first-round picks, Josh and Noah—the bloodlines are there. Taking his reps in the infield, he displayed sound actions, taking correct routes, and flashing a live arm with proper mechanics. He quieted the building as soon as he stepped in the cage. It’s an advanced swing for his age from both sides of the plate. It’s an aggressive approach, he generates bat speed and impacts the baseball with authority. He will be a fascinating watch over the next four years—high ceiling.

Jesse Dale C / 3B / Forest Hill Collegiate Institute, ON / 2023Report: At the Fergie Jenkins League Showcase, Dale, a 5-foot-11, 168-pound catcher impressed. He displayed a compact swing with extension through the hitting zone. There’s current strength, body control and advanced ability to work in sync and maximize use out of his body. There’s power, and the makings to hit; there’s lots to like at the plate. Behind the plate, it’s a strong build that should handle the catching duties, he handled velocity with comfort, and has the making to develop into a strong receiver. During pop-times, he was 1.94-2.15, his arm worked short and with whip, getting up to 75. It’s early, but there’s lots to like on both sides.

David Stanley C / RHP / Greenwood College, ON / 2023Report: Stanley is physically advanced at 6-foot-1, 172 pounds and impressed this winter. He has arm strength, throwing up to 74 from behind the plate and recording pop times in the 1.95-2.19 range. At the plate, it’s a compact swing that, when in sync, has the capability of producing pull-side power. He also runs a 7.06 60-yard dash. On the mound, it’s a clean, controlled delivery, where he utilizes his leverage and works up to 82, displaying feel for a traditional 12/6 curveball. It’s a sturdy frame, with arm speed and arm strength, that will take on more velocity.

Brodie (BJ) Peart SS / 2B / Peoples Christian Academy, ON / 2023Report: Peart, a 6-foot-1, 140-pound infielder, is a freshman who we first got a look at during the summer. He is a ‘23 grad who will be a guy to follow for years to come. His swing works freely, it’s a direct bat path, with bat control. It’s a repeatable swing where he maintains a simple approach. He has the foundation to hit, and with physical development, it’s easy to envision power being a part of his game. The actions in the infield are sound; he displays body control, tempo, and clean glove-to-hand actions, he’s also been 75 across.

Asafa Jones OF / LHP / Brebeuf, ON / 2023Report: Jones, a 5-foot-7, 140-pound outfielder/left-handed pitcher, is a 2023 grad with plenty of raw ability. From the left-side, he stands in and turns it loose; it’s an upward swing with potential loft power. It was an inconsistent round in the cage, and he loses his control at times, but when he makes contact, he has a chance to impact the baseball. In the outfield, he worked with whip up to 78. On the mound presently, he is 72-74, but there is arm speed and a lot more velocity in the tank. Jones should be a good follow. |
