Harding Academy completed their year with a 4-0 win over Greenland High School to win the 3A State Championship. Harding was the overwhelming favorite throughout the season and with stood the pressure to complete their goal.
The Wildcats posted a record of 32-5 on the season. They won their final 11 games including a 10-1 victory over Clinton, a 17-7 win over Charleston, and a 10-3 win over Bald Knob. Their offense was impressive scoring over 12 runs per game during this stretch.
In the Championship, they received an impressive performance from 2018 RHP/OF Peydon Harlow. He worked 7 innings with a complete game shutout. He commanded the strike zone with a fastball which worked 84-87 mph with late life in through the strike zone. He located his curveball and changeup on command keeping hitters off balance consistently.
Offensively, Harding was very opportunistic taking advantage of Greenland’s mistakes as the Pirates made 6 errors. 2018 CIF Seth Morgan had a multiple hit day driving in runs and provide a stabilizing force in the middle of their lineup.
Greenland played the game with energy and toughness, they just fell a little short on execution and withstanding the constant pressure the Wildcats offense continued to apply throughout the game. 2018 MIF Chandler Alaniz stuck out as a player to watch through the summer, as he showed a feel for the barrel, and advanced athleticism.
