No. 3 Gilman improved to (4-0) in the MIAA "A" Conference on Friday afternoon with an 8-2 win at No. 17 Archbishop Curley. The Greyhounds bats were on fire from the start and never let up to the tune of 12 hits on the day. Pierce Bennett (Wake Forest) set the tone for the offense in the top of the first inning when with two outs, he blasted one on a line, way out over the left center field fence for the early 1-0 lead. Gilman would add a second run in the next inning on a Ryan Martinez sac-fly to right field, and two more in the third as Jackson McCambridge singled to score Casey Bishop and Tripp Myers grounded into a fielder's choice to make it 4-0.
Gilman blew it open in the fourth when Bishop doubled on a hard ground ball down the third base line plating both Ryan and Tyler Martinez (San Francisco). Bennett then roped a single through the left side to bring in Bishop increasing the lead to 7-0.
Greyhounds starting pitcher Peter Heubeck (Wake Forest) was spectacular challenging hitters with his fastball and mixing in a hard breaking ball to keep Curley hitters guessing at the plate. Heubeck went five innings striking out seven while surrendering two runs on three hits. It was a couple hit-batsmen and walks that got Heubeck in trouble in the bottom of the fourth. After hitting the first two batters of the inning, Colton Knoble doubled on the first pitch of his at-bat to right field to bring in the Friars first run. Two more walks in the inning would plate another run to make it 7-2 Greyhounds after four complete.
That was all the Friars would do offensively however as Heubeck worked a clean fifth before Myers came in to relieve him in the sixth. Myers struck out the side in the sixth and the lead-off in the seventh. Ryan Williamson then came in for the final two outs of the ballgame as the Greyhounds defeated the Friars 8-2.
Every Gilman starter reached base in the game with Bennett (3-for-4, 2RBI's, 2R's), Bishop (2-for-3, 2 RBI's, 2 R's), Williamson (1-for-2, 2 R's), and R. Martinez (2-for-3, RBI, R) leading the way. The Friars were led offensively by VCU commit Tyler Locklear (2-for-3, R) and Knoble (1-for-3, RBI).
