As we continue to shape-the-state here in New Jersey, several different unique features will be available on our website. Player Spotlights, Progress Reports, Scouting Blogs, Rankings and Top-Performer Lists, and so much more. Without the players we have nothing, so let’s take this a bit more personal - Get To Know: Our new article feature that hones in on what our Garden State players are up to, what makes them tick, and some real-candid inside access...
Name: James Steindl
High School: Old Tappan
Grad Year: 2017
State Rank: 63
Commitment: LIU-Brooklyn
PBR: Let's start with your baseball commitment to LIU-Brooklyn. Tell us about the decision-making process? How excited are you to play in there?
Steindl: We had initial contact via email and they reached out to me for a visit. After the tour, we sat down and they made a serious offer. I really liked the coaches and the thought of being in the city was right for me.
PBR: Baseball has an unbelievable way of positively shaping young man on and off the field. Tell us one life-lesson you have picked up over the years playing the game, and how that life-lesson may impact you later in life?
Steindl: One lesson baseball has given me so far is what you put into it is what you get out of it.
PBR: If you were a baseball scout and just watched yourself play, what would that scouting report look like?
Steindl: I think a scouting report would sound like a left handed pitcher with good arm speed, an athletic build, and room to fill out.
PBR: We are knee-deep into the off-season schedule. Tell us about your training, and spring preparation.
Steindl: My offseason regimen has been doing workouts at RPP and Vinny Pierce Therapy in Pearl River, NY. At both places I have been getting a lot stronger and it has helped me put on weight. I have been also throwing with Wladyka twice during the week.
PBR: If you could only pick one, who would be your biggest baseball influence and why?
Steindl: I look up to all left handed pitchers in the big leagues every time there is a lefty throwing on T.V. I feel influenced by them because I know I can do exactly what they do but it's up to me to work hard to get on their level.
PBR: Name three goals for the upcoming 2017 season.
Steindl:
1. Win a League Championship
2. Win a State Championship
3. Have fun and create memories that will last forever.
PBR: Who is the best player you have played against in your high school career so far?
Steindl: My sophomore year at Old Tappan, we played against Don Bosco and (LHP) Cullen Dana (currently at Seton Hall). He no-hit us and threw some nasty curveballs and worked inside a lot. He was untouchable.
PBR: Do you have any pregame superstitions?
Steindl: I usually eat a buffalo wrap that my mom makes me before each game.
PBR: What would be your best walk out song?
Steindl: "Everybody Dance Now" by Freedom Williams
