Like many of his peers, RHP Garrett Stallings (Grassfield HS, VA) recognizes the need for strength in his lower half and the ability to analyze an opponent in baseball. Many get it from working out or a second sport like football or basketball. Stallings does the same, though he takes a slightly different avenue. Through his junior year, Stallings took to the hardwood, but with a different kind of net.
“It’s a very fast game,” he said of his second sport, volleyball. “You have to be very quick. You do a lot more jumping than you do in baseball so you tend to get your legs a lot stronger. It’s also a mental game too. It’s such a fast-paced game, you can lose a point or win a point so quick. You really have to read the other team and judge how you’re going to approach a kill…kind of like pitching you have to analyze what you see in the batter, what you’re going to attack him with.”
