Daniel boone 8, Donegal 2
Senior righty Zach Brightbill went five strong innings and handed a 2-1 lead to sophomore right-hander Matt Henderson who worked around an unearned run in the 6th to pick up the win.
Daniel Boone sent 10 batters to the plate in the 7th inning plating six runs to break open a closely contested game. The Blazers scored a single run in the top of the 1st inning on a long home run to right field off the bat of senior catcher Brendan Rivoli (top right). The Virginia recruit turned on a first pitch fast ball and deposited it into the parking lot in right for an early 1-0 lead.
Junior center fielder Kyle Hess (middle right), a Pitt commit, used his bat and his foot speed to tie the game in the bottom of the frame. The left-handed hitter laced a two-strike pitch to left field for a single, advanced to second base on an errant pick-off attempt, moved to third on a ground out and scored on a ground out to third base by beating the throw to the plate.
Daniel Boone regained the lead in the 2nd inning on two walks and an RBI single off the bat of sophomore second baseman Chase Lacey, before Brightbill and Donegal starter Brady Steinmann settled into a pitchers dual.
The pair put up zeros in over the next four frames before Steinmann got things started for Donegal in the bottom of the 6th inning when he reached on an infield error. A sacrifice bunt and a game tying single off the bat of junior right fielder Tanner Kohler sent the game to the deciding 7th inning knotted at two runs a piece.
Daniel Boone did its damage with just three hits in the final frame, aided by three walks and a misplayed fly ball. Uncommitted senior left fielder Devon Garner's (bottom right) two-run double followed by a two-run double off the bat of junior third baseman Carson Zuber were the key blows.
Garner (2-for-4, 2 RBI) was the lone multi-hit performer for the Blazers. Hess led Donegal's offense out of the lead-off spot going 2-for-3 with a run scored and was hit by a pitch.
