Future Games Propels Blake To D-I Commitment
PITTSFIELD, Ma. - It was only a matter of time before Evan Blake found a college home after his performance at the Future Games.
The 17th-rated 2023 third baseman in the country belted a grand slam in the bottom of the first inning of game one for Team Massachusetts and later hit a sacrifice fly to the warning track, before following it up with a one-hop RBI double over the right-center field fence in game two a day later.
“Before the Future Games I wasn’t in contact with anybody,” Blake related. “After the Future Games I was in contact with 10 to 15 schools.”
One of those was Bryant, which saw the ninth-ranked junior in New England for the initial time at the PBR event in Georgia.
“That was the first time they got to look at me,” the Taconic High School junior noted. “They got in contact with me two weeks after. We stayed in consistent contact and they saw me two more times in Staten Island. I hit two bombs and they offered Sept. 15. I committed two weeks later.”
The 6-1 205-pounder visited the Northeast Conference school in between the offer and commitment.
“I like the way the coaches communicated with me,” Blake explained. “They got on me right away and stayed hot on me. I love the education they have there and it just felt like my home.”
Bryant was enamoured with what the 373rd-rated 2023 in the nation could bring to the program.
“They love the way I play the game,” Blake said. “They like how aggressive I am and my attitude toward the game.”
The number two 2023 third baseman in New England had high praise for the Future Games in helping out his recruitment.
“It was the best experience of my life, especially playing in front of all the scouts,” Blake reflected. “I had a mindset to just play my game and give 110 percent. That was my goal. But it was definitely the best feeling I’ve had as a baseball player trying to get recruited.”
Additional offers came from the likes of Maine and Elon, helped out by improvements made by Blake since entering high school.
“I took the weight room more seriously,” the 6-1 205-pounder noted. “Instead of three days a week two years ago, I was doing seven days a week. I’ve been putting in as many hours a day as I can.”
The drive began when college baseball entered the picture.
“One-and-a-half years ago is when I started to put in the work,” Blake explained. “My goal at the end of the day is to play pro baseball and I knew if I was going to do that I had to put everything I’ve got into getting there.”
Blake credits Rip City Academy with helping the cause.
“Kevin Donati, a Padres scout, and Alex Carrosotto with Rip City Academy were a big part of this,” Blake said. “The Future Games and PBR were the biggest.”
It benefited a drawn out process in the eyes of the fourth-rated 2023 in Massachusetts.
“My recruitment was probably a year long,” Blake related. “It was super slow with calls every once in a while but then started springing up in the summer. After the Future Games, calls were every hour of the day. I narrowed it down to what I wanted and I’m glad I finally figured it out.”
A 3.8 student with plans to major in business/entrepreneurship, Blake believes he can benefit the Bryant program located two hours from his Pittsfield home.
“I’ll definitely bring a good bat, a good player and a good teammate,” Blake said. “I hope to be able to help them win another divisional championship.”
With a decision official, the 16-year-old can now take a deep breath as he looks forward to playing in a program that has won three NEC tournament titles in the past eight seasons.
“It’s a big relief, especially in the baseball process,” Bryant concluded. “It’s just another step out of the way and I finally get to celebrate. Now I’m able to chill and do my thing.”
