Future Games Preview: Team Carolina Arms (NC)
July 31, 2020
The PBR Future Games has quickly become the top recruiting stop for college coaches across the country. While the situation in 2020 will not allow coaches to be in attendance, there is still plenty of attention heading to LakePoint, in Emerson, GA, to see the best of the best. The PBR Future Games feature the top uncommitted, underclass players in the country, all in one spot.
Beginning Saturday August 1st, Team Carolina, made up of NC and SC underclass players, will begin their journey through the Future Games. Saturday is a workout day with position players going through a full pro-style workout. Sunday and Monday will feature live game play with Team Carolina taking on Team Florida, Team Mid-Atlantic, and Team Georgia.
We begin our previews of Team Carolina by taking a look at the pitchers from NC that will be looking to make waves this week. A mix of projection, arm speed, and arm strength will draw eyes throughout the weekend.
PBR FUTURE GAMES: TEAM CAROLINA NC INFIELDERS
William Bryant RHP / SS / Myers Park , NC / 2022Rankings StateRank: 47 / POS: 13
Potential dual position follow that has taken major steps forward on the mound since appearing at the 2020 Preseason All-State in January. Athletic with arm speed and a feel for his secondary stuff. Still room to his ceiling. STATISTICS
|
Jackson Humphries LHP / OF / Fuquay-Varina, NC / 2022Rankings StateRank: 33 / POS: 3
Quick arm with high level spin metrics. Has consistently been better with each viewing by a PBR Scout. High ceiling as he learns to harness his arm speed and movement. STATISTICS
|
Zac Martin RHP / Foard, NC / 2022Shined at the Athlete's Lab Scout Day in early July. Flooded the zone with three above average pitches. Clean arm stroke and a frame that will handle more strength. STATISTICS
|
Mason Murdock RHP / 1B / Northwest Cabarrus, NC / 2022Physical and clean. Still growing into the frame and should continue to mature over the next year prior to adding strength to the frame. Fastball has solid spin metrics. Breaking ball is developing but shows flashes of late tilt with depth. STATISTICS
|
Hunter Sloop RHP / Lake Norman Christain, NC / 2022Physical 6-foot-8, 215 pounder. Good athlete, also shines on the basketball court. Flashes a heavy fastball with angle through the zone. Still working to harness his power, the future is very bright with continued development. STATISTICS
|
Aubrey Smith RHP / 1B / South Brunswick, NC / 2022Rankings StateRank: 50 / POS: 15
Quick arm and a strike thrower. Stuff has action with the fastball boaring into RHH and the breaking ball showing hard 11/5 depth. There is pace to the arm and as he continues to add strength to the 6-foot-2 frame, the stuff should continue to grow. STATISTICS
|
Colby Umbarger OF / RHP / North Iredell, NC / 2023Rankings StateRank: 16 / POS: 5
Length and athleticism with a clean arm stroke lead to easy projection as Umbarger continues to mature. Bumped 87 at a PBR Tournament this summer, and that may be the tip where his stuff lands. A dual prospect, there is athleticism in the box with the hint of power potential. STATISTICS
